I ran across a a Colt that peaked my interest. It is a gold cup NM series 70 MKIV that appears to be in pristine condition, but does not include the original box. Can anyone enlighten me on this gun? I am trying to determine a fair value as well as any feedback on this particular model. I found a post from 2012 stating ~$900, have they appreciated since then?

Assuming that this is not one of the current-production guns (new ones have three-hole triggers), that's a nice price for one in "pristine" condition as I understand the term.

Older Series 70 Gold Cup NMs in excellent condition and without the box routinely sell for considerably more than that on Gunbroker. I've seen some borderline shabby ones fetch close to $900. That post from 2012 sounds like a low estimate to me for that time as well.

I own three of them...only shoot one. Have box for one that's had one mag fired through it. $1200 to $1500 more reasonable price, but mine not for sale.

Thanks all. Asking price is $975, with a few extra parts to throw in. Pristine is maybe a strong word, but from the photos I have seen it looks to be in very good condition.

I am leaning toward purchasing.

A very good price for a Gold Cup as you described it. I'd be leaning like the Eiffel Tower toward getting it before someone else snaps it up.

Condition is everything. If it is in VG to excellent condition the price is on the low end. Make sure the gun has not been modified. If it has make sure the modifications were done by a professional smith not a kitchen table job. Get as much info as you can about the gun and function check it if you can.

With a 70 series gun check the condition of the collet bushing if you can. They are IMHO a problematic part. There was a lot of fitting problems with the collets. When they were right, they worked pretty well but there benefit was outweighed by the problems they created. When they did not work right the problems they created rangeds from minor reliablity issues to breakage that could lock up a gun. If the teeth break while firing there is potential to lock up the gun completely and damage the barrel, slide and frame. Lots of people replace them with a standard bushing.

::KICK:: It's okay, we all make mistakes. I try to never sell guns, as I always end up regretting. I did sell a 1991a1 last night to help fund the GC. I think i will be able to live with that decision.

Might think about adding ivory while you still can...
