Sorry to bother everyone, but Concealed Carry, Inc. has a chance to get a
sizeable donation for selling a Colt Single Action Army .45. I am having a
devil of a time figuring out it's approximate value as the serial number
should end in SA but this serial number is 340003.

Other Marks:

PATENT SEPT 19, 1871
JULY 2,72 JAN.1975

The firearm appears to be in excellent condition.

Any opinions as to value would be welcome. Again, sorry to bug everyone, but
I know someone out there will have the info and after all the questions I
have answered over the years, I figure I'm entitled to none.

Any help that I can pass on to John would be great!

Thanks

Where is the serial number that you are referring to located on the gun? You are correct in that the number should end in SA for a 2nd generation gun and in 1978 it should begin in SA after #99999SA. My only guess would be that you may have a gun that has 1st and 2nd generation parts in one gun. Ser 340003 is a 1st generation ser number but the pat. date puts it somewhere between 2nd and 3rd. If this turns out to be the case this would be considered a good ole shooter i am not sure how to put a value on it other than it may be a best offer kinda deal.

Get out your magnifying glass. I think that last date should be 1875, not 1975. The gun is a first generation, made in 1920. Value depends on condition, and could be anywhere from $500 to $10,000. The latter value would be for one brand new in the original box, a very unlikely situation. In average shape, around 70% original finish, they go for $3000-4000. Little or no finish can bring the price down to $1000 or so, and less if the gun is rusted or broken.

Here is a pic. Not too sure of the SN because the piece is not actually in front of me. I think the 1975 is a typo and should have been 1875

Looks as if someone took the color case hardening off the frame since the bluing looks so strong on the other parts. That would greatly reduce the revolver's worth.
