(Va) Shooting companions dropping like flies, got any spares?

In recent months I've been losing shooting companions to busy schedules at work and college. Damn computers and education.... ;)

Anybody in the Richmond/Northern Neck, Virginia area need a free place to shoot?

I've got 150yds acceptable for open sight, and 200yds good for scope (I need to get the chainsaw back there again to clear the 'cover', so I can shoot 200yds open sight again). It's in the woods, under cover, and in the shade. Stays nice and cool back there.

Both precision shooters and lead-layers welcome. Rifle and pistol targets at many different distances.

Yankytrash,

Man, what an offer! Sure wish I lived in your neck of the woods! :)

I hear ya' though. Most of my friends are no longer "available" to go to the range with me. The last time I asked one of my best friends (also a co-worker), he couldn't go because he had to take his wife to Waco to get her nails done! Seriously!!! :barf:

Yankytrash,
Where about in Virginia are you located? I'm up in Fairfax County (Northern Virginia). I know of at least 6 other local Northern VA TFL shooters. In fact, we have had two successful TFL shoots, one at the NRA Range and the other at the Bull Run Shooting Center.

If you can provide some more details on where you're located? If it's not too far, I might be able to get the rest of the guys to pay you a visit. Regards.

I'm down in Farnham, Va. It's about 2 1/2 hrs from either Bull Run or Fairfax.

Some of you guys may have gone fishin down this way before, but it might be a little far to go shoot, if you've already got a place.

But, you decide. Here's a link to the Yahoo map:
Farnham

I shoot within a 1/4 mile of where it says "Farnham" on the map. Here's the email I've been replying to people with, it describes my range pretty well:
"You know where Warsaw is? I shoot about 10 miles SE of Warsaw, in Farnham. Just in case my post at TFL gave the wrong impression, I want to make sure you understand that this is my personal range, not some kind of professional range.

I feel that my range is set up pretty comfortably. I've got a table to shoot from, with a rest for bench-rest style shooting. I keep a rake, axe, and machete back there to keep the brush and leaves down. I've nailed some small-mesh fencing to the right of where we shoot to catch the brass, in case you reload. It never gets muddy back there, and I've gone shooting right after pouring rains before.

I've got rifle/pistol targets set up at 25yds, 75yds, 100yds, 140yds, and 200yds. It's a fairly flat range - about a 4' drop in 130yds. I compensate for the drop by setting my targets higher. I've got some other targets to experiment with that I'm going to set back there too, relating more to rapid fire.

I plan to go back there this weekend with the chainsaw and take care of that 200-yard target I mentioned. I'm also going to clear enough room for my skeet thrower - it'll only be limited to the 40-yards or so of width I have on the range, but I thought it'd be nice to break away from the norm every once in awhile.

Like I said, it's out in the woods, so we have to carry our own drinks and snacks (and perhaps a little toilet paper, if the need should arise :-) ). I personally don't like mixing booze and guns, so try to leave the beer in the cooler until the guns are put away, if you don't mind.

I shoot a couple times a month, and I'm open for almost any weekend. It's always more fun to shoot with someone else; so any time you guys are free, I'm ready. I usually shoot for 4-7 hours at a time, depending on how much fun I'm having and how much ammo I have.

Any questions, just drop me a line. I check my email a couple times a day.

Out of curiousity, what guns do you bring to the party? I've got the following:
Ar-15 SP1
Polish AKM, 7.62x39
Romak 3 sniper rifle, 7.62x54R
L1A1, 308 cal
M1 Carbine
Winchester Mdl 94, 30-30
Browning Hi-Power pistol, 9mm
crappy Firestorm Mini Compact, 45cal
Rem 870, 12ga

Y'all can feel free to shoot whatever I may bring with me.

Catch ya later..."

Sounds like you have a nice patch of land there. Too bad I'm in the Hampton Roads area. A little too far to go shooting. On the other hand if you want to plant some non-geneticaly modified wheat, cabbage or other legal organic crops, I have some Y2K seeds that we could split the crop when or if it pops up.
