VA Hospital...grr

I understand the VA not allowing firearms on the premises, but the front gate doesn't have any sort of firearms locker or way to hold my CCW while there. Security said "leave it home".

Dammit.

Just got word yet another home invasion happened close to my house. Two guys were waiting in the bushes while the people came home. Held at knifepoint.

I don't know that I would leave it with anyone at the gate, even if it were allowed.

How about a gun locker/safe for your vehicle?
Just a suggestion. ;)

That's an interesting idea. Just have one in the trunk of the car. If I still drove my Cherokee around there's one made for the armrest that's pretty slick...

There are no federal facilities that respect the second amendment. I work for the VA system and I share your frustration. I really cannot recommend however that you have your weapon anywhere on the premesis. To do so is a felony and could present major problems for you.

I never understood why you can't carry a gun in a hospital. A person shot in a hospital has a FAR better chance of surviving. they probably just don't want the embarrassment of having to take the guy to the ER lobby getting the paperwork done, checking insurance, checking blood pressure (if he still has any) and making him wait 3 hours for a bed.
