VA CC question, loaning a handgun?

My friend may get her CC license soon. Unfortunately as we all know, firearms aren't cheap. She's not in a position to pay $300+ right now.

Does VA law allow me to loan her say...my P11 when she feels the need to carry?

Not sure but a prosecutor might go after you. I'm not a lawyre but lending someone a gun speaks to her immediate desire to shoot someone and opens you up to a lawsuit in case she screws up. I'd sell it to her for a reasonable price and "lend" her the money back so no actual money comes out of her pocket, have her sign a statement. When she's done with it, finds a replacement then she can sell it back to you for the same price. If you trust her enough to carry your gun then you can trust her to sell it back to you, right? That might cover you both.

Virginia doesn't require registration of privately traded handguns. It also doesn't require listing a CHP gun on the permit.

You can hand her anything you want and she can carry it without legal issues. Just don't commit any crimes or lose control of the firearm and its perfectly legal.

Just remember that if you loan her a gun and she shoots someone(either accidently or on purpose), you have put yourself in a position of assuming liability for her actions. Check with your attorney before doing it. I'm pretty sure I know what he'll say. Be warned.

It's OK

I live in VA. and the laws are not too restritive. She just needs to use common sence. Also getting a CC licenses are not to crazy to (no jumping through flaming hoops ect...)
If you do not have a CC the weapon must be must be visible from three sides when carried other than that must be a non felon or sex offender or Mental kook.
We are still getting over the Virginia Tech tragedy.
Great site.
