ACTION (for Thursday, September 28, 2000):
1. Please use one of the two pre-written letters below to help you
contact George Allen again.
The *second* letter is a shorter version of the original letter that
we provided two weeks ago. Send it today if you did not send it
earlier. The *first* letter is a follow-up to the original. Please
send this follow-up to George Allen if you contacted him two weeks
ago. Ask him to oppose ALL gun control and to stand up for the 2nd
Amendment rights of all Americans!
2. Please forward this alert to as many Virginians as you can!
It is imperative that we do not send another person to Congress who,
like Senator Chuck Robb, supports the Clinton-Feinstein gun ban
agenda. Virginians have been "Robb-ed" for long enough!
VIRGINIA UPDATE:
George Allen has still not answered gun owners' questions about his
recent statements in the press. Earlier this month, Gov. Allen
publicly admitted that he now supports the Clinton-Feinstein gun ban
on many common household firearms and magazines.
This draconian ban, passed in 1994, covers more than 180 types of
firearms as well as magazines that hold over 10 rounds. All of
these banned items are useful for self-defense purposes. The ban is
set to expire in 2004 -- 10 years after the ban became law. But one
can bet that gun control extremists will certainly try to
"reauthorize" the ban once it sunsets. And that means that Allen,
if elected, WILL HAVE TO VOTE on this draconian infringement! His
views on this issue are not merely academic; they are tremendously
important.
Allen has flip-flopped on 2nd Amendment rights. Allen told gun
owners in his race for governor in 1993 that he would NEVER support
a ban on semi-automatic firearms. His recent comments in favor of
the Clinton ban represent a 180-degree reversal.
Back in 1993, Gov. Allen responded very well to GOA's Candidate
Survey. He answered "NO" to all the questions below:
* Would you support legislation banning the manufacture,
possession, sale, or transfer of semi-automatic firearms?
* Would you support any restrictions on the ownership of
military-style, semi-automatic firearms?
* Would you support additional restrictive legislation regulating
the ownership, use, or possession of any firearm currently owned
by honest citizens?
Thus, in 1993 Allen said he would oppose any ban on semi-autos,
including military-style semi-autos, and would oppose any additional
bans on firearms owned by honest citizens. His support of the
Clinton-Feinstein gun ban represents a retraction of all three
statements above.

------ New letter for Allen ------
Dear Gov. Allen:
I was dismayed to see that your position on the Clinton-Feinstein
gun ban from 1994 is a reversal from your earlier position on the
2nd Amendment.
Gun Owners of America has informed me that you held pro-gun
positions when you ran for governor in 1993. You stated then that
you would NOT support:
* Legislation banning the manufacture, possession, sale, or
transfer of semi-automatic firearms; nor
* Any restrictions on the ownership of military-style,
semi-automatic firearms; nor
* Additional restrictive legislation regulating the ownership,
use, or possession of any firearm currently owned by honest
citizens.
Unfortunately, you no longer stand by the above statements. Your
support for the Clinton-Feinstein agenda is very troubling to me.
Nevertheless, I am hoping that the "old George Allen" will return
to challenge Sen. Chuck Robb in the November election.
As it stands now, the Clinton-Feinstein ban is set to sunset in
2004. So I would like to hear from you on a very important issue.
If you are elected Senator, will you vote AGAINST reinstating the
Clinton-Feinstein ban? I would like to get your answer to this.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
------ Old letter for Allen ------
Dear Gov. Allen:
When Gun Owners of America told me you were supporting the 1994
Clinton-Feinstein gun ban, I was quite shocked. It is impossible to
enforce the existing gun laws and, at the same time, to respect the
rights of law-abiding citizens. Anti-gun restrictions ARE
INFRINGEMENTS upon my God-given right to defend my family and
myself.
I am concerned that if you are supporting a draconian infringement
such as the Clinton-Feinstein gun ban, you will support other
self-defense restrictions once you get into office.
As it stands now, the Clinton-Feinstein ban is set to sunset in
2004. If you are elected Senator, will you vote AGAINST reinstating
that ban? I would like to hear your answer to this. Thank you.
Sincerely,
