VA AG declares Self Defense good and sufficient reason for church carry

In VA it is illegal to carry in a church during a worship service without good and sufficient reason. The AG has just issued a letter stating that personnel protection is good and sufficient reason.

Note: Churches since they are private property can ban firearms, but there is not a blanket ban on them now, or at least the lack of a ban for self defense has been given some official sanction.

News from a VCDL email.

Some more good news for VA, now on to constitutional carry.

Yep, some nice changes recently. Cuccinelli is the general briar in some people's shorts. VA and nationwide.

A very good start, although I'm still keeping my wife's and my guns in the truck safe until it becomes an actual law. An Opinion is still not Law.

""A lot of good stuff coming out of Virginia lately. "" from post #2

Cuccinelli rawks!!

Been a huge fan of Ken Cuccinelli since he first ran for the 37th Virginia Senate seat some years back. He's a true friend of gun owners and is a regular at area gun shows - sure, he's trolling for votes, or keeping his name in the mix, but he seems to genuinely enjoy being there and talking issues with the common rabble.

Not gun related, but certainly liberty related, Cuccinelli launched a thus-far successful challenge to aspects of Obamacare, quite independently of the 26 states that joined hands against it.

Cuccinelli is also a skilled and utterly fearless debater - he'll take on his most virulent opponents (and believe me, they are virulent) anytime, anywhere.

This latest opinion is of a kind for him - that asinine wording, "good and sufficient cause," is just ripe for abuse. The AG's opinion isn't law, but it carries a fair measure of weight - after all, the Commonwealth's Attorneys all have to answer to him! :D Until us VCDL'ers succeed in having the offending language amended, it's not a bad start.
