UV LED Light for tracking blood?

I know quite a few of you guys are in law enforcement, so have any of you actually seen blood glow under a UV light like they say, and would it glow bright enough to track an animal without having to get down on your hands and knees to see it?

You need to spray the area first with the chemical developer stuff (Luminol). Blood itself doesn't do anything but look black under a blacklight.

A blue LED (or blue filter) flashlight makes it stand out pretty good though.

Thanks for the info guys, I have found a Blue light forensics light, but it is $109.00. Do you guys know where a guy could get one that doesn't cost quite so much?:o

For daytime tracking of wounded game a spray bottle of hydrogen peroxide is likely to be more effective and cheaper. Blood fizzes and foams visibly when hit with HOOH. Get the peroxide by the gallon at a hairdressers' supply.

Academy

Hey,
I was at Academy just last week.
They had a flash light up by the gun case
that was made to show up blood.
The light used the LED system, and had a display screen.
Think the light sold for around 50.00 bucks?
Something new wasen't around last year.

As a geologist/geophysicist we use UV lights a lot in the field. Very good for seeing the internal structure of carbonate rocks and looking for radioactive materials.

I strongly suggest you get a good one. I have 2 of them that I bought from Edmund Scientific.

They are expensive, but very nice. They have a lead acid battery so they can run for hours and have a built in charger. I have never worn out a bulb yet. You can switch from single bulb to dual or either bulb. I commonly have run mine for a complete night without the battery going dead. They also provide a power supply so you can use it at the lab during the day.

Finally, they are great to show the wife where the cat chucked on the carpet, and all of the other stains in the house. You can also track most spiders and bugs with them. They seem to fluoresce.

Will a black light do the same? To blood that is.

I bought a blacklight fishing light at wal mart and havn't gotten to try it for myself yet. Anyone know?

Check Wally World; there's a Garrity LED flashlight that comes with red and blue filters for about $15, and our local store even has a special tracking flashlight with red & blue LEDs for under $30.
