Utah Attorney General race - good man to support

Hi all, I'd like to introduce Frank Mylar, who is running for Utah Attorney General. He's running on the Republican ticket. I've known Frank for a few years and know he's a man of integrity and honesty. He's worked for the Attorney General's office, so knows how that office works. He is no wishy-washy fellow, but a man of convictions and he's published those convictions so we can evaluate them for ourselves. Please see http://www.frankmylar.com/

There'll be a table at the gun show at the Salt Palace this weekend with folks handing out literature about Frank Mylar. I don't think Frank will be there himself, as he's making a speech somewhere else that day.

In case it matters in this crowd, he and his wife homeschool their children. I don't think that's going to be mentioned much in the campaign, but I wanted to let TFL-ers know that Frank's certainly not one of the flock of sheeople.

If you have any questions, I know Frank would be interested to hear them. His e-mail address is on his web site: http://www.frankmylar.com/

My family is supporting Frank all the way. I've never known a politician in my area whom I could recommend unreservedly, and I'm excited to have found one! -- Denise

Here's his stand on the 2nd Amendment, taken from his website:

"Frank Mylar's Stand on The Second Amendment
The recent tragic shooting at the LDS Church Family History Library will no doubt be used as political currency for spineless politicians who see guns rather than the breakdown of the traditional family as the cause of societal ills. Most of the candidates for Salt Lake mayor will no doubt rabidly call for more restrictions on the personal weapons of law-abiding citizens.

Reason, however, dictates the exact opposite response. More than ever we need law-abiding, honest citizens armed to protect themselves and their fellow men and women from a society that produces more and more lawless and amoral criminals.

According to 1997 FBI statistics, a woman is twice as likely to be raped in Utah than in New York. Our overworked and underpaid law enforcement officers are simply less and less able to deal with the results of societal decay. Certainly they cannot be expected to stop a random lunatic who decides it's a good day for random people to die. You can bet that such cold calculating killers will never be detoured by firearm restrictions.

Ironically, about the same time the shooting was going on downtown, I witnessed a fleeing convicted felon being apprehended at gunpoint just four doors up our block. With three small children in our home, I could take some relief that I would at least not have to beg for mercy if he jumped into my yard next. I prayed, however, for the neighbors who may not be so well-prepared.

Certainly we must address the root problem of crime, the decay of the traditional family, in a more concerted and determined fashion. But in the meantime, we need honest citizens to fill the gap in our increasingly dangerous society. More than ever, we need to ensure the right of honest citizens to carry firearms."

Gee, thanks, Oatka. :) I didn't even think of posting his statement here. Can I plead insanity from too many children?? (Today has been the day from hell . . . )

Off I run to my legislator's town meeting. First time I've met the guy. With all the gun-related bills in the UT legislature right now, gotta speak up. -- Denise

Sounds too good to be true.
I will be there... I'll hit that table at about 2 on saturday. If I can find it... have to hunt through all the Beef Jerk tables.

Yes, but I figure we're due one really good one every. . .what? . . decade or so??? :p

Like I said, I've known the Mylars for several years, through home schooling and other avenues long before I knew Frank was interested in running for political office. (Maybe that doesn't mean much 'cause ya'll haven't gotten to know ME much yet . . .) I taught their daughter piano lessons for awhile, heard their genuine concern and prayers when my husband was out of work, etc. Frank really believes the statements he's published. I've watched him act on them, too. Both in the spotlight and behind the scenes. He is a man of convictions. . . . and I'm delighted that his convictions are the same as my own! :D

Wish I were going to the gun show, have been asked to work Frank's table, but hubby will be working and the thought of packing baby with me and dealing with the other children is just overwhelming . . .

Hope I'll meet you at some other time, George! -- Denise

Another statement from Frank Mylar's web site, this one regarding the lawsuits against gun manufacturers:

The flood of lawsuits against gun-manufacturers by President Clinton and our nation's mayors is a sure sign that this country is much further along the road to decay than many are willing to acknowledge. All who cherish our Bill of Rights should be outraged at the legal implications of these novel and unprecedented suits regardless of whether one personally favors Second Amendment rights. Holding gun-makers liable for incidents of criminal violence is like blaming automobile manufacturers for alcohol-related accidents.

As an experienced civil rights attorney I can promise you the legal arguments crafted to hold gun manufacturers liable will be the same arguments used to take away or limit your favorite constitutional rights in due time (i.e. personal property, parental rights, and freedom of religion and speech). If government officials succeed in suing private companies for an illegal use of their products, rest assured they will eventually use the same reasoning to sue sporting goods stores and organizations which seek to protect Second Amendment rights. The same legal "reasoning" could then be used to attack any group, organization, or church which espouses views deemed politically incorrect or "dangerous" by our ruling elites.

Let's be honest, these suits against gun-makers are nothing more than re-distribution of wealth schemes dreamed up by greedy politicians. It is regressive taxation at its worst. Instead of extorting money from law-abiding companies, government attorneys should help defend the constitutional rights of gun manufacturers or we will all lose one by one all of our personal rights.

State attorney's race expands: Republican is seeking seat now held by Graham

By Elyse Hayes
Deseret News staff writer

Republican Frank Mylar, an attorney with the state Department of Health, has announced his candidacy for Utah attorney general.
Standing in front of the state Capitol Wednesday with a crowd of supporters behind him, Mylar declared his conservative platform, namely his support of traditional marriage, his opposition to pornography and his commitment to getting stronger abortion laws.
"I don't believe in the philosophy of being a stealth candidate," he said following the announcement. "I'm just going to come out and tell people where I stand whether they like it or not."
Mylar has worked for the last three attorneys general in Utah and says he is tired of "closet liberals" representing the state.
"I can no longer be a spectator," he said.
Several of Mylar's key issues deal with crime prevention and criminal sentencing. Mylar said he
doesn't support gun control as a solution to lowering crime.
"Politicians want to take away gun rights from law-abiding citizens like you and me," he told cheering supporters.
Mylar is the third to announce his candidacy for attorney general. He follows Attorney General Jan Graham's chief deputy, Democrat Reed Richards, and Republican Salt Lake County Commissioner Mark Shurtleff.
Graham, a Democrat, has said she will not seek re-election, instead possibly challenging Republican Sen. Orrin Hatch for his U.S. Senate seat.
Mylar said he has raised about $20,000 for his campaign so far but says his strength is his number of supporters.
"I've got more people than any of the other candidates. And they're enthusiastic."
Rep. Bill Wright, R-Elberta, was at the announcement to show his support of Mylar, saying the former assistant attorney general, who had represented the state Department of Corrections, is right for the office.
"I encourage him in his running and I would support him as attorney general," Wright said.

Come read Frank's words for yourself: http://www.frankmylar.com/

Here in Utah, the precinct caucuses are a week from Monday. They're on the 27th at 7:00 pm. Talk to your s.o. and a couple of like-minded neighbors beforehand. Plan which of you will run for *state* Republican delegate. Nominate that person or persons and vote as a block. After you're electec, put May 6th on your calendar, go to the state convention and vote for Frank Mylar for attorney general. If Fank gets over 60% of the vote at the convention, there's no need for a Republican primary in that race. Then we can turn to promoting Frank over the Democratic opposition.

Last night I learned that Frank has been soundly endorsed by Mitch Vilos, attorney and author of Utah Gun Law: Good, Bad and Ugly.

See copy of endorsement at http://www.frankmylar.com/endorse_Vilos.htm.

Thanks, Mitch!

I wish you all good luck and Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

The posts in this string raise some questions in my mind. I wonder if there is a clear understanding of what is a Republic? I wonder if our fellow citizens know the purpose of the government of this Republic and the purpose of the vote?

Do we support a candidate because of political party affiliations? If so is that the proper purpose of electing anyone to office?

Consider; The Constitution is the supreme Law of this Republic and it articulates the duty of government and those elected to office. If that is true, to the best of my knowledge it is true, then We, The People, elect citizens to office to obey the Law (Constitution). Before entering the elective office the elected must by law swear, or affirm, to Preserve, Protect and Defend the Constitution.

My point being, in my lifetime (66 years) the promise by those of the democrat and republican political parties to obey the Law is/was/has been a travesty and a mere formality. If no one believes me just take a peek at the history of government compared with the Constitution in just the last 70-80 years or so. In essence the only valid reason We, The People, vote is for the candidate who we believe will honor the oath of office. Voting for any other reason is a wasted vote. Wasted in regards to preserving this Republic. If preserving this Republic and freedom means anything then vote third party.

The Constitution is the supreme Law of the land in this Republic. Think it, sleep on it, dream it, eat it, drink it, study it, talk about it, believe it and support it or lose it.

Do we support a candidate because of political party affiliations?
Well, I don't. I'm specifically mentioning Frank Mylar because I've known his family for several years and know Frank's honesty, integrity and beliefs. I mention that he's running on the Republican ticket so folks who are not involved in that party can know where to look for his name on ballots, etc, and so that folks who are involved in that party can help Frank against his opponent within the party.

In short, the campaign is looking like this: Frank lays out his beliefs, intended actions, etc., and his opponent says, "uh, yeah, me too." I've heard people who began with no preference of a particular candidate say that Frank Mylar's campaign has content and the other Republican doesn't.

The Republican Party State Convention is May 6th. At that time, either Republican Party candidate will get 60% or more of the votes of the convention delegates and thereby be the name on the ballot in the General Election in November, OR the vote will be closer than 60% and a primary must be held for that race in June.

In case anyone here on TFL was at the pro-gun rally at the state capitol on Saturday, I was the gal holding the baby in a sling who grabbed the open mike at the end on behalf of Frank Mylar. Pleased to meet'cha!

--Denise, hang in there. A few good republicans are still alive, sorry I can't say that for any democrats. I wish you and him well. That is if you believe he will honor the oath of office.

The oath of office is my only criteria for choosing who to vote for and is the only correct criteria in this Republic. I was trying to make that point and one about a constitutional government. I was not necessarily addressing your candidate.

This Saturday is THE day.

UTGOA (affiliated loosely with GOA) rated Frank's answers to their candidate survey: Frank earned a 100% rating! :)

In the flood of literature I'm receiving (feel sorry for the mailman!), UTGOA has clearly stated which candidates received a 100% rating, and that Senator Hatch did not. No mention was made of Frank's opponent in the A/G race, therefore I'm assuming that Frank's opponent failed to return the survey.

Any who are state Republican party delegates, please vote for Frank Mylar for Attorney General.

Any who want to pitch in, Frank needs help setting up his booth Friday night and passing out literature Saturday. The convention is at the 'E' Center in West Valley. 7 pm Friday to help set up, Saturday beginning at 6:30 am and probably ending around 3 pm. Please call 582-1320 or 487-2580 to coordinate.

Others who are inclined to pray for Frank's victory are encouraged to do so! :)
