Maybe this post is appropriate for this forum, and maybe its not, but for an ex-salt like myself, this is a painful thing to see......http://www.freerepublic.com/forum/a3a018dad0437.htm
Amazing that they saved her and amazing that the Blue Marlin can pick her up and bring her home. I wonder just how they can keep her on the deck of Blue Marlin in a nasty sea state.
But they must have figured it out, since the Blue Marlin just delivered two large USN minesweepers to the Gulf...

I believe the USS Stark came home on her own. However, the USS Samuel B. Roberts was brought home in a similiar fashion after tagging an Iranian mine. You can see a picture, and read accounts of the Roberts and the USS Princeton's mine damage here.
I am thoughly amazed and disgusted at what they have done to MY Navy. Why didn't they have divers over the side welding plate over the hole and have her underweigh in 3-4 days back into the Med on her good engine to a repair facility? What is with all this fourtune wasting flying home and piggybacking the ship. Is the ENTIRE Military full of wimps now?

Too bad the members of the USS Cole won't be able to vote as they can't get their absentee ballots sent from the states. Ya Gore we are at full readiness, if that is so why can't we even deploy simple ballots? Maybe because most won't vote for you?
