youngun:
I have the USP 40 Compact. Accuracy, once the weapon got used to me, is superior. My small thick hands do well on this frame. It will feed anything I put through it, even mixed. Highly recommend it.
As far as the comparison of the 40S&W to 10MM, the 10MM has a longer case (therefore more powder), stiffer recoil, and handles heavier bullets better, so the only comparison I’ll give is with 180 gr JHP bullets :
10MM – 5” barrel
Hodgdon __ 1125-1140fps–new-Longshot_1220-1290
IMR ______ 1100-1200fps
Accurate ___1120-1240
Alliant ____ 1125-1240
40S&W – 4” barrel
Hodgdon _ 950-1050 fps-new-Longshot_1010-1160
IMR _____ 970 – 1030 fps
Accurate __ 965-1020
Alliant ___ 930-1065
My accuracy carry load is:
180 Gold Dot - Longshot – 1098fps-ES 23-groups <1”@25 yrd
This was the best accuracy of any bullet / powder combination I have tried, and could be considered a low end 10MM equivalent since it comes from a 4” tube while 10MM are 5” tube data. Recoil of this load is snappy, but not abusive.
Best wishes, Shoney
