Usp Durability?

How durable is the H&K USP? In examining one, I noticed that the frame rails do not look as sturdy as other polymer pistols. Is this really an issue if considering one? Has anyone ever had a problem with their USP? Need input before I put out!

Thanks,

Mike

10K+ rounds is a good durability test for you? :) I see no wear on the small metal rail on mine, the slide is still tight fitting, no rattling when I shake the gun.

From gun test magazine

"the USP45 Tactical has an estimated
service life of 24,000 rounds before depot
maintenance is required. By comparison, test-ing
by the Crane Division of the Naval Surface
Warfare Center rates the service life of the
M1911A1 at 15,000 rounds, the M9 at 5,000
rounds, and the Mark 23 at 30,000 rounds.
The USP Tactical has a shorter service life
than the Mark 23 in part because the Mk23’s
slide is a lot heavier and in part because the
guide rails molded into the frame of the Mark
23 are much more massive and robust than
the rails in the USP Tactical."

Not to forget, the tactical and the MK23 are based on the USP40 fullsize design, so all fullsize USP's should have the same avg. lifespan.

mvdemarco,

The frame rails do look a little fragile, but over 5200 rounds through my USP .45F since this past June and I have no complaints. Why, because I've had no failures of any kind. Gunhead has twice as many rounds through his USP and he sounds like a satisfied customer, I'm a satisfied customer, and if this is your only concern with the gun I think you'd be a satisfied customer also. HK didn't win a government contract for the SPECWAR guys because of cheap construction. Check out the link New_comer identified, it will give you the info on how the USP MK 23 was tested. Also, grindliner makes a good point the about all USP having the same lifspan. The same manufacturing process for the MK 23 is used for the full line of USP's. Also, HK states in the USP manual that their guns are rater for +P and +P+ ammo without any modification to the gun. All this being said I think it is safe to say that the frame rail tabs will hold up without any problem.

grindliner,

Depot level maintenance? NSWC Crane? You work in the navy engineering field? I work for NSWC Carderock in Philly, I'm a Fleet tech rep. I don't see anyone talking about depot level maintance on the boards here, or anywhere. I'm just curious.
