Which HK USP Compact do you guys think is the best? The 9, .40, or .45? The HK was built around the .40 wasn't it? I think I read that somewhere.

I have not shot the 9mm, but of the .45 and the .40.... I like the 40 best....your mileage may vary.

I have a 9mm and.40, Ilike the 9mm best. But I'm looking for a .45 now and will probably trade or sell the .40 because I DO NOT LIKE .40S&W!!!!!

They are all outstanding. I believe the .45 is 5% larger than the other two. The .45 compact has a mag capacity of 8 while the .40 and 9 hold 10 rounds each.
It just depends on what caliber you want to shoot.

I do not think there is a best. I have a .45C.

I prefer .45 over .40 and 9MM - have they others too - but I prefer .45 ACP.

The .45C is a touch bigger than the other two. Also a touch heavier.

The .45C has 8 round mags. Thus no high caps.

The 40C and 357 Sig were post '94 weapons. Thus they are limited to 10 round mags.

Gonna need some help on the 9C as far as capacity - but I think high caps are available.

Considering how large any of the USP Compacts are - I think it is more of a question of which caliber do you prefer.

Good luck

Any way you go - you can not go wrong.

Thanks for all of the quick responses and all the info. This one month waiting period is killing me. I came into some money and there are so many different cool pieces that I want to buy but can only get one a month. It makes buying them more difficult because you have to decide on just one each time.

Tri-
The easiest way around the 30 day period is to buy used guns. There are a lot of used guns in the NIB & LNIB condition. I have purhcased of few of those already this year. Currently have 2 used guns currently being dros'd. Plus, you'll save a couple bucks in the process. ;)

Yup :D Found it amazing myself when I found out. Used guns don't count towards your 1/mo limit...I've purchased 15 handguns this year...only nine were brand spankin' new from dealer ;) & I still have this month and next month to hit my quota
No, I don't have a pistol purchasing problem, I can quit anytime :p

15 guns, wow. I wish I had that kind of money. I was thinking I could afford like two maybe three guns this month and i thought that was alot. 15. WOW.

So if I went to www.auctionarms.com and bought some guns from that site they wouldn't count as my one? Or I could buy one from a friend and that wouldn't count? That is great. I have some buying to do Monday.

Yes, the USP was based on the .40. As far as best, all USPs are great, you just need to decide which works best for you. And if you're looking for a pristine USP 9 compact, I've got one reasonably priced with night sights that I'm parting with, in the FS forum here. =]

IMHO,

The .45C has a "rolling" recoil compared to the "snap" of the .40C. That makes the .45 more controllable for me.

If you really want a 9, take a hard look at the P7 series. The P7M8 is a wonderful pistol.

While it is true that the first USP full size weapons were designed around the .40, the .45 models were redesigned for that cartridge, and the .45 compact is the "latest" design USP, with all of the little improvements learned from the other models.

Best?

I just bought an H&K compact in 357 sig.

If its like the full sized usp in 45acp i owned i love it. Picking it up tommorrow.

Gonna do some tests and see if it fills the bill.

12-34hom.

Of the different calibers, I prefer the 45acp and then the 9mm. If I was trying to decide on a USP compact, I would select the 9mm because 1st because the magazines hold more rounds than the 45 and 2nd because the 9mm frame is a bit slimmer than the 45 and in this case, size does matter.

I'd rather shoot a +p 9mm or a 45. I've owned a few 40's (P16-40, G23, Beretta 96.) I liked the guns, didn't like the round. Absolutely subjective!
Just to be a little more specific. I don't like the snappiness of the round and the accuracy was not what I expect either. I once had a 10mm pistol, the S&W 1076, and I preferred that over the 40. I actually liked the 10mm alot, it was just the cost and availability of the round that caused me to sell my 1076.

Tri - FWIW, go do some home work on the various calibers.

Look into the following issues (if they matter to you)

1. Cost to shoot - check out prices at www.ammoman.com or www.cheaperthandirt.com

2. Stopping power www.firearmstactical.com/tactical.html Note - the 9MM and .45 ACP have been around along time - this generates more data. 40 S&W is very popular amongst the LE crowd. They have been many improvements to the round since its inception. Arguablely all the bugs have been worked out. 357Sig is newer. Little data exists. History is not on its side either - a bottle-necked pistol cartrigde has yet to make a lasting presence among mainstream shooters - this could be the one though.

3. Dis-regard the opinions of others until you have done your homework.

Then and only then will you have your own unqualified, un-tested, empirical evidence based opinion of what is the hands down best caliber that there is and will ever be..... which is of course .45ACP. (Well IMHO)

Good luck
