USP Compact smoother trigger than full size?

I handled a new (date code AB) USP45 Compact today. The trigger was butter smooth, I dry fired it in SA and DA modes. No "grain" in the pull at all...what gives? I like my USP9 full size trigger, but this new and unfired USP45 Compact had a trigger like a tuned 1911.

Did HK do something to the triggers for the '01 models? I got awfully jealous after playing with that Compact.

Now I have to go and buy one ;)

I just picked up a HK USP9c yesterday evening. It is also date coded 2001. The trigger is "smooth as butter". I have not had any experience with the full size models...but, from the quality of my new compact (I disassembled and assembled it at least a dozen times last night...just to get familiar), I'm going on the hunt for a full size in 45 this weekend at the Central Florida gun show.
BE SAFE!

My USPs have had "smooth as butter" triggers since day one...date code AA and AB. Granted, the Expert does have the match trigger...we'll call that trigger melting butter ;)

Could you tell how heavy the DA / SA pulls of these "butter-smooth" triggers? My USP9f with date code KK (99?) feels somewhat gritty in DA, but registered 12-13 lbs in DA and 5-6 lbs in SA, just as indicated in the manual. Could i have the local HK armorer "smoothen" the action in my unit?

New_comer:)

Gotta break ranks here.

They are pretty good in SA when they new. However they are both pretty bad in DA when new.

My .45F has about 13,000 rounds through it and it has more or less smoothed and polished the pieces parts on its own. Now the DA is MUCH better.

My .45C only has about 2,000 rounds - SA is pretty good, but DA is a very different feeling.

Dont get me wrong, it is still more than acceptable - esp considering what is out there. My .45C is not on par with my Burrito 92 C. However, the reality of what it all means is this - from the holster (moving as fast as I can) my first shot in DA is going to be about 2" low.

There is a guy named Teddy Jacobson that has a very good rep for doing trigger jobs on HK compacts (they do not accept match triggers). However, as mine is a carry gun, I think I will just let it work its way in on its own and avoid any potential liability.

Good luck and as always YMMV

There's no doubt in my mind that something has been improved for date code AB on the HK compact 45's I have handled. My AA (2000) code pistol has a slightly mushy SA action after about 10K rounds, and the new AB code 45C I just picked up has an SA action that feels like a decent 1911.

Yes

Yes the compacts are better than the full-size. The full-size SA is very good with the drop-in "match" trigger setup. However, the DA is still long, with lots of stacking.

The compacts have a shorter, smoother DA pull, but there is still creep. It seems HK has been listening to complaints about the USP trigger and they manage to improve it slightly with each new model.

I can live with the funky DA because I shoot SA almost exclusively. But the USPs still have a long and sloppy trigger reset which makes you long for a 1911 during rapid fire. Some of us have also experienced the "click no bang" phenomenon. You shoot, release the trigger till you hear/feel the reset click, then pull the trigger again, but no bang. At least one PD has dropped the gun because of this issue.
