USP barrels

With all this barrel changing going on, is it possible with HK? I own a USP .40 Compact. Can I buy a seprate .45 barrel for my weapon, or would I have to buy the entire weapon? If another barrel would work in my slide and frame, would anything else be required? Would the .45 mags fit? I do not want the darn thing to explode in my hands!! Any info would help.

What you are suggesting is not possible with the HK. The frame dimensions are different from a .40 to 45 ACP. Also, the slide dimensions would be different, OD of the bbl is different, breech face different, and the magazines won't fit.

Switching to .45 would be expensive/impractical/inadviseable. I don't think you could even slap an entire .45 top end(slide, barrel, recoil ass'y) on a .40 frame w/out ejector problems and other dimensional issues. You can switch to .357 SIG rather easily with a barrel swap- slide, recoil spring and magazines are the same. the .357 SIG is fast, accurate, and now less expensive to shoot due to its spreading popularity. Have fun!
