I bought one on Sat. Dealer is putting on Meprolights on for me too. I going to use it as a kayaking gun.
Why did I choose the USP?
1. It felt good in hand.
2. HE finish(this gun take a beating)
3. My Kimber doesnt seem Robust enough for sea duty.
4. My local dealer is a really nice and he needed the business
5. I am getting a raise OCT.1

Oh more more question. Will the ten rounders froma USP45f fit in a compact?

Ammo selection depends on what you want to use it for. Against two-legged critters, Hydra-Shok is always nice, or +P 185-200 grain from Pro-Load, Triton, Remington (if recoil isn't a concern).

As for the mags, no, the compact uses a different magazine design because they wanted to make the grip thinner than full-size. The full-size mags will not work in a compact.

I suspected as much about the mags Thanks
Guys! I was thinking about the Speer Gold dots because of the shorter barrel.

I've got the 45 compact, love it.... the only thing you've mentioned that you don't have allready or are getting that I'd reccomend is one of the inexpensive Hogue grips that slips over the stock grip. VERY comfortable and makes the gun much more user friendly, imho.

Of course you might want to consider using the lanyard attatchment if yours has one, would hate to lose my piece flipping over in the water.

I love both of my USP's but I sure wish I could do something about that DA trigger pull.

You might want to look into some lighter +P loads to get the max. velocity out of the shorter barrel. I use 230gr +P Quick Shocks or 185gr Golden Sabers with a couple of GI Ball rounds thrown in for good measure out of my USP full size.

Congrats on the purchase!

As far as the DA pull, I think you can get a lighter mainspring to help out. Possible a trigger job by a smith would help and you can always give him the spring to install while he has it taken apart. Obviously you don't want to go too light because you want the primer to strike true.

If you need more details, the guys at the hkpro.com forum have always been a good help.

That's easy. Cocked and locked ;).

EricM, that is an option that i considered but have not explored, yet.

I guess I have not convinced myself that cocked-and-locked is as quick to fire as DA. Like most other technique issues, i suspect that this is, again, a matter of training. Maybe I'll give it a try.

CMOS: Given the long, hard DA trigger pull, I'd argue that cocked and locked is, in fact, far faster to fire than DA. Of course, you have to train yourself to properly operate the safety.

Draw, as the gun clears a 45 degree angle with the ground, wipe off the safety. By the time the gun is up and on target, the safety is off. It takes no more time than drawing DA. Just takes training.
