Using Sudsy Ammonia and water for copper remover?

Hi,

I just bought some sudsy ammonia from the grocery store and i mixed half in half of water and ammonia in my windex spray bottle and i am going to use that for my corrosive ammo shooting and removing copper. I want to ask you guys if that is a really good copper cutter to use in my bore to remove the copper and the corrosive salts?

Thanks

Erfan

Sounds like a pretty good idea (wish I'd thought of it). Just gotta make sure you get it all out and apply a healthy coat of oil.

I use the spray bottle to spray some on a patch and then run it down the bore a couple of patches. I used it on my turk mauser and then i ran Hoppes No.9 down the bore and i saw alot of green on the patch after a minute. I want to know why didnt i get any green when i was running the ammonia soaked patches down the bore, only after i ran a hoppes patch through the bore?

Water, not ammonia, dissolves the residue from corrosive priming, but the ammonia may remove the copper fouling and let the water get to the salts (potassium chloride) that cause corrosion.

Jim in the water amonia mix there isn't enough water to rinse out the corrosive salts. Water is used by many but in much larger quantities. It's actually the amonia that nutrilizes, chemically, the corrosive salts. I'm glad we're all getting some lessons in cleaning up after using corrosive ammo. right!
