I have my 22-250 sighted in pretty good for 400 yards...My question is,if a add a tripod to it will I have to resight it over again? I mean is the tripod going to change bullet impact? Thanks...And which brand is the best to get if I decide to do it? john:eek:

Tripod?

Or do you mean a bipod that attaches to the stock?

I've never heard of shooting a rifle off a tripod. Machine guns yes. Rifles...?

He means bipod.

I know the bayonet on a Mosin M44 will change bullet impact due to barrel harmonics, the other members here can elaborate.

Probably not if it's mounted to the stock. If it's one of those deals that clamps on the barrel, the point of impact may be different depending on whether you're leaning on the bipod or not.

Shooting off a bipod, or bag, can be an issue with accuracy, but only if the barrel is not free-floated, or if the free-float is marginal and you have flex in the front of the stock.

Anything that contacts the barrel changes harmonics, and point of impact. I have seen stocks that flex upwards and contact the barrel when placed on a bag or a bipod is used- not a good thing...

If the barrel is not free-floated, you're likely doing the same thing, adding to or changing the contact point(s) of the stock/barrel.

Well, you extend the bipod while it's on the tripod. This gives you a super tacticool pentopod (That's 150% more pod than a plain old bipod). Useful for mall ninjas who have actually managed to fill up every inch of a quad rail and can no longer lift up their rifle.

There's probably some legitimate use case, but I couldn't resist.

A Ma Deuce weighs what, 120 pounds?

It's NOT a rifle. No buttstock.

So a tripod for a heavy machine gun is just a little different.

I've read that more and more military snipers are using tripods, both in the field and in training.

But to the OP... You should be fine without having to adjust much. As long as you don't attach your tripod directly to the barrel or it doesn't warp the stock, it shouldn't change the way your rifle shoots.

I use a tripod a good bit,But mine does not attach to the rifle it has a peice of conduit cut in half with a base plate screwed to it works great with bolt guns.comes with sling bag you carry over your shoulder. And it does'nt change the zero on your scope. For large fields, cutovers, powerlines or even blinds its the stuff.
