Using a Glock in IDPA?

How many of you shoot any kind of Glock in IDPA and how would you compare it's performance in competition to other popular semiautos.

I've shot what I own, a Beretta 92fs and Sig 220. The Sig performed really well I thought but the Beretta was definitely slower out of the holster with it's really long DA pull.

At our local IDPA at least half shoot glocks, and I usally shoot a Glock 22 or 20 with no problems.

I usually shoot custom 1911's in CDP (45 acp) and ESP (40 S&W) IDPA divisions. I normally shoot mid to high Sharpshooter with them.

I recently traded around and ended up with a Glock 17 with Heinie straight eight nite sights that I use for home defense and truck duty. Just for kicks I decided to shoot a little SSP division with it this year. I entered the Southern Regional Championships (Stock Service pistol/Sharpshooter) with it and won the class - I guess it shoots OK - but I'm still using my STI (Glockteen-eleven?) at the Nationals!

In my observation at local matches, and in reading posted results from regional, state, and national matches, the Glock seems to be the dominant pistol in the SSP division. There are exceptions of course... IDPA past-champ Ernest Langdon shoots a Beretta, but he is sponsored by them.

The Glock is my choice for SSP. Hard to beat the trigger.. none of the DA to SA transition.

I'm thinking of starting IDPA soon. when i do i plan on using my Glock 19 to compete. I also own a beretta 92G Elite but i would choose the glock over that. i can shoot the glock faster and more accurately. it also points better for me. i see nothing wrong with using one for IDPA.

What is up Pthfndr? I remember meeting you today at the NNvIDPA match. I use a Glock myself, and have a blast with it.

Hey Hemphill
Enjoyed watching you shoot! I posted this before I had a chance to use my new Glock 19 in todays IDPA (shot it for the first time today). Ok, I am sold on the Glock. The trigger is not as crisp or smooth as the SA pull on my Sig 220, but it's nice not to have to deal with the DA first pull out of the holster. The sights and grip are like they were tailored for my (current) eyesight and hand. This was my third IDPA match and my third gun. I think I found the one I will stay with. Now I just need more mags for those 24 shot strings :)

I would never say I told ya so...

BUT I TOLD YA SO!!!

I can only say that cause I fought Glock for 6 months... then tried it... It grouped better than the Taurus PT92 that I had worked with for 6 months...

That and I found out by reading and getting on forums that I had been shooting incorrectly for just about 18 years or so...

Gee, wonder what really made the diff??? (grin)

And just when I was makin moves in IDPA Hemphill shows up... {sigh} Story of my life... (grin)

Good scenarios today! It was a blast!

Well, I am done packing for New Orleans...

See ya in a couple of weeks - With a BIG grin on... {evil smile}

I was trying to decide what to shoot in the Nationals and was discussing this with Marc McCord. He and his wife Beverly shoot most of the major matches around the country.

His comment to me was SSP was probably the most difficult division because of the number of people shooting Glocks. CDP was next with all the 1911 shooters. I believe he used a number like 50 to 60 percent of the shooters being in SSP with close to 90 % of those shooting Glocks. I don't know that these numbers are statisticly valid. But I think they are more just his experience.

So I had him trick out a Colt Lightweight Commander in .38 Super to shoot ESP. :D See you all in September.
