Picked this up today.

A USFA Double Eagle, in 45 Colt.

Very slick SAA clone, of outstanding quality. I like it a lot. Doug Turnbull case colors and "Dome Blue".

It's really sad that USFA couldn't weather the bad economy and continue making these superb Colt clones.

If I understand correctly, it was not the economy that did in USFA's SA production, it was its owner who flitted off to other things.

OMG!! I failed to buy one of those while they were in production (44 Spec was the caliber I was lusting after)...and now NEVER see them anywhere!

If you paid less than 1500. than you got a steal!

Wanna sell it? :o

Very nice! A used USFA Double Eagle sold a few days back on GB for a buy-it-now price of $1500. Sounds like you got a great deal. The USFA is my favorite single action. Sure wish I could find a Bisley or a Premier Single Action in 44-40 for a reasonable price.

Fit and finish is as good as it gets, and the action is perfect, with a crisp trigger break. Better than the Colt I had a couple years ago.

Almost kept the one I had here.
Woulda had the barrel been screwed on straight, shot markedly left at 25 yards & the gun was typically oversprung.
Came verrrrry close, but returned it.
Nice guns.

I think this one has had a smith tune it, or at least lighten the mainspring. Not oversprung at all. Feels just like a Colt.

If Eddie Janis at Peacemaker Specialists had agreed to do the work I wanted done, including the barrel, I would have kept it. But, he only does Colts & I ended up sending it back to USFA.

Every USFA I've had here was over-sprung, and a couple had over-torqued barrels, but all were nice over all.
Even the lowly Rodeo that's still here.

Very sad what USFA has deteriorated to.

Stopped on my way home from work and burned up a box of cowboy loads. Very nice groups at 15 yards, when I wasn't shaking from the ten cups of coffee I drank today.

Shoots to point of aim, with no issues. LOVE the Bisley hammer. ALL SAA's and clones should have it.

I'll have more fun this weekend. Planning a trip to the hills with a sack of potatoes and apples. A bunch of pointy sticks to stick them on, and it doesn't get much more fun. And NO cleanup afterwards. The critters take care of that.

My Mernickle holster is still 5 weeks out. Then it will be a great woods carry.

+1 ...and I had such plans for them :( I keep on hoping we've been in a bad dream or alternate universe and we'll come back to a better reality where this didn't happen. I think the market and economy did play a role, not just the owner's whim, but I think without that whim they could've figured things out, a USFA fan-benefactor to subsidize, something. I'm back to dreaming! I'm fortunate to locally (yea no shipping!) have a top Coltsmith along lines of Peacemaker's knowledge and capability but who'll work on any single action and thinks very highly of USFA. Beyond original set up of mine I haven't needed his services on mine but great to know he's there if I do.

This is a D.M. Bullard holster, made for a Ruger Montado. Fits perfectly.

Sorry for the blurry cell phone pic. My arm is only so long.

The Mernickle hi ride holster showed up today. They said 5 weeks, and it only took a week and a half.

Now..THIS is a serious holster. The gun lays super tight to my body, with the butt held close. VERY easy to conceal under just about any shirt or jacket.

Simply the best. It has an extra belt slot and can also be worn crossdraw.

I have a couple of Rugers that are very similar, with their version of the birds-head grip and the Montado hammer. One is .45 Colt and the other .45 ACP. The second one loads nicely from a Glock 10-round magazine :p

I've wondered about getting a good holster to carry one concealed, although not IWB. Thanks for the pics of the holsters.

With the Ruger I could safely carry with 6 rounds loaded. I assume, since yours is closer to the original Colt design, that you carry with only 5.

Very, very nice. They are wonderful pistols. I've had a USFA SAA for several years, and have been very happy with it. It is a shame that USFA went in a different direction, as they are at least equal to Colts and maybe a little better, although I'd love to have a Colt as well.

I like the holsters also!

Snub357....I've never met you.....but I hate you!
You've rekindled my obsession with these USFA Birdheads, and I cannot find one anywhere!!

I love the 44 Special model, but just started reloading for 45 Colt, so would take either caliber...

And for the gentleman who said that their Ruger Birdshead was similar to these USFA Birdsheads.....no offense, but NO WAY a Ruger compares to these for fit & finish, and that classic 4 click sound! (I've owned a Ruger Birdshead...)

There is an early new unfired USFA Birdshead in the white with both 45 Colt and 45 ACP cylinders currently on GB for the measly starting price of $1850. As I said though I believe it is an early model Birdshead and is not a Double Eagle. Nice looking little revolver. It has been on GB now for several weeks.
