Used vs New - I chose used. Was I right

Couple of months ago, I was searching for a 92FS. The gun store I frequent had two...a brand new one for $589, came with one 10 rd. mag. The other was used...a 1994 police special with two 15 rd. mags, and Trijicon night sights for $509. It is in fine condition other than minor finish wear. Did I make the right choice? I think I did, but would like to hear from y'all.;)

You made the right choice. I buy all my pistols used, and all of my rifles new. Shotguns, I will go either way on.

The price of a used pistol is usualy much lower, and if it is in good shape, it will last just as long as a new one.

Always remember to give the gun a careful once (or twice) over before you buy, to make sure it is not broken or battered in any way. I always ask the guy behind the counter if I can strip the gun and look at the internals before I commit. I have yet to be refused.

I agree with Skofnung

It's a lot easier for a rifle barrel to get shot out or ruined, and harder to tell.

Sounds good to me.

Regards.

Redlg155, I must confess I don't know what LEO is, but one is USA factory, the other is Italy factory.

Always use two hands with pistols...one in each

LEO = Law Enforcement Only

He is talking about post ban, hi capacity mags which were made for law enforcement only, and illegal for subjects of the US Govt to possess.

If they are LEO, they will be stamped that way.

Blast...

You made the right choice. 2 hi-cap magazines, night sights, good condition. Used guns in this sort of shape are always good buys.

I'm not home right now to check. I don't think a certified and reputable dealer would sell something illegal.
they're obviously pre-ban, and I don't see what would make LEO hi caps any different than standard hi caps. But that's why I'm on this forum...to learn;)

Blast,

You are correct, reputable dealers woudn't knowingly sell something illegal. . . BUT I once had a reputable dealer "almost" sell me an LEO only standard ("hi cap") magazine. The magazine was clearly marked For Law Enforcement or Military use only", but the dealer just hadn't noticed. It was some surplus from another shop he had bought and hadn't taken the time to look each item over carefully.

Bottom line. . . be careful.

LEO/Military Hi-Caps and preban magazines are physically the same, except for the markings. The only legal "high" capacity magazines to import and sell in this country are stamped as LEO/military.
So they fit in the guns the same, and work the same way. If you are caught with the wrong ones, you end up in court.

You did good. I usually go w/ the best deal which usually means I buy used. Sometimes tho, a good sale on a gun I've had on my wish list comes around and I buy new too.

Thanks all. I've looked at them and the only stamps are "PB CAL.9 PARA MADE IN USA," and the other the same but made in Italy
