I stopped in to my local shop to pick up some snap caps and saw this shotgun on consignment.

I didn't get too much information on the gun as far as year built and such, but it was in fairly good shape yet clearly used. It is a 12 guage. It has a 28inch ported barrel with a vented rib and bead sights. The butt stock has a raised cheek pad that looks really trick. The stock and forarm is wood and in good condition. It is for sale for $735. I asked the shop owner if there was room for negotiations and he said the gun just arrived and ther might be some later on.

What do you think about the price?

$400 TOPS. You can pick them up in as new condition for $450.

Look for a Beretta 390, 391 or a Winchester SuperX2, they are worth what they cost.

I like the Model 11-87, in fact I own one in their (no longer available) Sporting Clays configuration: 28" light contour, ported, vent-rib barrel threaded for RemChokes; nickel-silver receiver, and upgraded wood fore and aft. Mine has never given me any trouble, points well, and (since 2001) has done everything I ask of it.

As for whether the one you've found is a good deal, consider Remington's MSRPs (courtesy of their Website) for the currently available versions:

If you are truly considering purchasing this gun, then my best recommendation is to have a competent gunsmith give it a thorough vetting and pattern it to check for barrel problems before you part with your hard-earned brass.

Good luck, and good shooting!

If the gun is a regular Premier, that is in fact too much money. The 11-87 Premier sells at walmart or other stores that buy in bulk for $600. You mentioned that it had a raised cheekpiece, however. If that raised cheekpiece is part of the actual wood stock, it probably is an 1100 trap model, in which case the price is more reasonable, but probably still too high.

Ported bbl and stock configuration sounds like a Trap gun.

Besides that, if you're going to spend that kind of money the Berettas and Benellis are much better guns (in my opinion).
