Used *&* Model 610

Last night I looked at a used *&* Model 610 (I think that was the model). It is a full sized *&* revolver in 10mm. I have a Model 625, and it is great. I am a 1911 guy for the most part, but I think that the 625 is about the slickest revolver around. The trigger is better than most smith worked auto's that I have shot, and it is amazingly accurate.

Anyway, does anyone own one of these? Are the 10mm as good as the .45 ACP? I have never fired a 10mm, and have been a .45 ACP fan for years. Is the 10mm any good?

I know, I must be an idiot to collect auto loader caliber revolvers and hassle with moon clips, but the purpose behind the purchase of the 625 was to take advantage of the fact that I load .45 ACP. Now that I own the 625, if the 610 is as good, it would be a shame to not get it.

Forget that! Don't buy it! 610s are pieces of crap, not worth the money, and are a bloody *?* to boot! How could you even consider it?

By the way, where is this gun store you were mentioning? I think I need to stop by and . . . lecture them on their merchandise. Yeah, that's it. :)

I hope you have it by now? If you don't, you will be sorry. If you like your 625, you will also like the 610. In preliminary tests, I have found my 610 to be more accurate than my 5" or 3" 625 and my 1955 Target in .45. That is from my Ransom rest and it is with loads that were actually loaded to be fired in my Glock 20 with a Bar-Sto barrel installed. I expect to improve on it with specific reloads for the revolver.

Thanks for the input, guys. No, I haven't bought it yet. The gun is in near perfect condition (apparently the one previous owner didn't like the full house rounds recoil and blast) and didn't hardly fire it much. Any suggestions on a good price?

Thanks.

You don't have to hassle with the moon clips in order to shoot these guns. Both the 610 and 625 will work fine without them. The moon clips only have to be used when shooting 40S&W from the 610. I have shot +P 10mm loads without the clips and they hand eject with no problems what so ever.

Birmingham Pistol Whlse had a 6" 610 used for $295. NIB I see people asking nearly $600. I wouldn't pay more than $375 for a shooter, NIB are plentiful in the $550 range, but they don't move except to collectors who want new guns. I paid $325 for my 625, hard pressed to pay much more for the same gun in a different caliber.

In the highly unlikely event that it is a 5" original run 610, I would jump on it in a heartbeat. I have a 5" & a 6.5 from the first run (fluted cylinder) and I can not believe how well they both shoot. The flutes look better to me on a dbl action, & scream pre-treason gun.

I recently found an early, used 610 with a 5 inch barrel. The asking price was $420, but I got it for $400. I've seen first run 610's selling for as much as $475 at gun shows. This 610 is my most accurate handgun. It will shoot 1 1/2 inch groups at 25 yards with UMC 180 grain FMJ's. Recoil is very controllable even with the Norma 170 grain JHP's. Another plus is the fact that I can shoot .40 Liberty through this gun. It is definitely one of my better purchases. Try it, you'll like it!
