Used lever action inspection.

So I've been on the hunt for that just right lever gun...again. I had a Rossi 94 in 44 mag way back when I was a youngin, sold it like a dope, miss is dearly. Fast forward more than 20 years and I found my self at the local Ma n Pa gun shot with a well used Rossi in 45 colt in my hands. Being a 45 I wasn't in to big of a hurry but could have been coerced. I fiddled with the rifle for a bit but couldn't get over the fact that it felt like it didnt lock up very tight. On a lever action the action closes that last bit with just a tad of cam over feeling. Well this particular model felt like that slightest bump would knock it out of battery. So. I passed on it. As I drove home I realized.....I had no idea what I was looking at/feeling, though it didnt feel right.

So. What does one look for in a used lever action??
