Used Bushmaster for $650?

Looks like I can get a used post-ban Bushmaster XM 15-E2 20in barrel for $650-675. Haven't haggled much on it yet.
Comes with 2 mags and little else.
No compensator/suppressor on it.
Belonged to a cop who kept it in his trunk for a year or 2. Has 2-3 small rust spots on it.

Is that price about right?
Or should I just order a new one?

Thanks,

I'm suspect of a pre-ban that doesn't have a muzzle attachment. Could be that he has a post-ban upper or at least a new barrel. Does it have a bayo lug? Check the serial number on the receiver and give Bushmaster a call to verify the date of manufacture. Also, rust on the surface of an AR to me indicates lack of maintenance and possible more significant problems. If your are really interested, have the owner field strip the weapon and look at the locking lugs, buffer assembly, carrier and bolt and most importantly the bore for signs of neglect.

For what he is asking, you could get a new postban weapon with no worries.

Noban is giving excellent advice on checking the serial number out with Bushmaster. ASK THEM IF IT IS A PREBAN BUILT INTO A COMPLETE RIFLE PRIOR TO THE BAN!!!! If that is the case, then just buy the darned thing. If it was a completed rifle prior to the ban the lower is worth over $1000 dollars alone. You can always buy an upper in a preban configuration for a verified preban lower that was constructed into a rifle.

IF the serial number checks out you found yourself a dam jewel and forget about the upper and the rust. AR parts are still relatively affordable.

I HIGHLY suggest you contact Bushmaster on the serial number issue and also check out their website so you can see what the prices are for replacement parts!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree with Slickpuppy. If it really is pre-ban, buy it if only for the pre-ban lower. Whatever else you get is gravy. Unless it has some physical damage, the lower should be fine (it is aluminum and shouldn't rust). Even if the original upper is in bad shape, you can buy the new upper of your choice and make a nice pre-ban rifle. And if the internal parts are rusty, a whole lower parts kit is only $60 or so I believe.

And if you don't care about pre-ban features (collapsible stock, bayonet lug, flash suppressor), then clean it up, sell it, and buy TWO new post-ban rifles with the proceeds.

That's way too cheap for a pre-ban, sounds a little fishy. I'd check the serial number with Bushmaster to verify it's truly a pre-ban.

Sorry guys, suffered from a brain cramp.
It's a post ban gun.

Thanks

Ohen, that in the right price range. $650 is a good price but if you can haggle about it being used and offer $625, you have a steal.

Take a good look inside the bore to be sure there is no scarring and be sure the barrel is actually a Bushy. There should be markings like "B MP 1:9 NATO" (I suspect it is a 1:9 barrel twist.

Good luck.

funny this topic should come up...founda Bushmaster shorty at a pawn shop. 16" barrel...no bayo lug but the barrel ends at the front sight. It's an XM15-E2S [maybe EZS?] for $830 with 15% 0ff.

Did some searches but found no BM website...anyone got links?

45er...thanx. I did a search and found the addy on a pre-Y2K thread. :)

But I still can't decide if the Bushmaster shorty is a good buy at $830. Seems no one talks prices on these things. I'm certain it's a post-ban, that worries me because I don't wanna get stuck with 10rd single stack mags...heck, my autopistol takes ten rounds....

Santana, you can use preban mags in a postban firearm; you are not restricted to the 10 rnd mags. Your description of the Bushmaster that you are looking at sounds like the Dissipator. The run around $775 - $825 NIB.

Since it's a post-ban, I'd just buy a new one, they're about the same price. Why buy a used one for new prices? :)

only thing about it...I can spread the price out over 6 months with no interest. Trying to save for a new one and I'll be trying to save till I'm 60. :)

I get a 15% discount on it with no interest bringing it to around $700. At another gunshop they didn't have any for less than $1000 sooo...i dunno. Wish I was rich...or at least had a life.

I'm looking at an ad right now from Air Assault Gun and Pawn, in Daleville AL, for a NIB Busy Shorty for $719, and the dealer pays the background check charge. That's the best price that I've seen in a while.

I paid $650 for my Bushy Shorty, NIB, about three or four years ago. Got a nice, teflon-finished Labelle 30rd. mag with it.

Satanta & ohen cepel,

Gregory at www.jcarmory.com had the following rifles on sale last month. I picked up a Dissipator Carbine from him. This rifle has the long sight radius of a 20" barrel, but handles like the Shorty and AK. I also like the way the full length hand guard protects the barrel.

I don't know if the sale is still on, but he may still have a few of the following left. Can't hurt to E-mail him and ask.

All are new in the hard case with 1 - 10rd magazine, sling. Shipping is $15.00/rifle. V/MC add 3%.

* Bushmaster 20 Inch A2 Target Rifle - $735.00
* Bushmaster 16 Inch A2 Shorty Carbine - $725.00
* Bushmaster VMatch Commando Carbine - $795.00
* Bushmaster AK Carbine A1 - $725.00
* Bushmaster Dissipator Carbine A2 - $735.00
* Bushmaster Complete Lower Receiver with buttstock - $225.00
