Used Beretta 92 DAO for $350

Ok, there have been these two heavily used Beretta 92 DAO's sitting at my LGS (from a big-box sporting goods store with lots of of inventory) for over a year now. The reason they are sitting there is because said store is charging $499 for them, and I am confident that they will remain there at that price.

About six months ago, I came in and bargained them down to the $350. I came in today to see if I could beat the price, knowing that since they won't change the sticker price that the guns will still stay there on the shelf. I offered them $250, which I knew they were going to reject, hoping for the $300 mark.

I've tried the triggers on both guns, and one of them has an excellent trigger that has aged very well with use.

My question to you, gentlemen, is should I have passed on the $350? I have no urgency. I am going to try to get a hold of a store manager and talk them down still or wait. But am I a fool to pass up a Beretta 92 DAO with a trigger that I like?

Darker Loaf, if ya really want it, then get it! Just a few months ago I acquired a Beretta 8000 D for just a little less than that, and also a PX4 D for $350. You might be able to get them down a little less but if not, I wouldn't hesitate to pull the trigger - pun intended! Just to make sure you cover all bases, check online and see what they are going for provided you can find any DAO's.

Another option would be an Italian police surplus 92S from SOG or Classic. They are going for $300 if the heel mag release isn't a dealbreaker.

My $0.02---- its a good price if you have a use for it. To me DAO service pistols are good defense guns, and -- being full sized -- either for home or vehicle. I have a S&W 5946 DAO for a bedroom handgun.

I got a DAO SIG P226 at a good price for range use, mostly, & found the DA wasn't very fun at the range (not to mention my poor shooting with DA). I ended up spending another $120 on parts to change it to DA/SA. Now it s fun to shoot!

Sounds like you're a gun guy, so you know what you'll use it for. $350 for a military grade truck gun is a good deal, I'd say. And if you end up selling it later you'll likely come close to breaking even.

Thanks for the advice in general, guys. Yeah, I am a gun guy. I've recently discovered, through the purchase of a S&W 986 revolver, that I love shooting in DA.

Beyond double action, I'm mostly a striker fired guy for centerfire pistols, meaning I am not used to operating a safety on a pistol. I carry a Kahr K9 which is both striker fired and double-action-esque That's why the 92 in DAO appeals to me. There's nothing new for me to learn.

The 92 DAO would likely be a project/range gun, and now that you mention it, cc-hangfire, a truck or beater gun. Sounds like that for $350 even, consensus is that it is not a bad price. As far as it not being a good range gun, I've thoroughly vetted the triggers on the two guns and one of them has an excellent DAO trigger, short and surprisingly light.

When I checked online prices, I was seeing $400 up for used 92 DAO. But I'm not sure I checked enough places or the right ones. It seems that 92 DAO's are rareish. To me, a 92 in DAO is most preferable model, the second most being the frame mounted safety version (which I would still have some training/learning to do with).

92D Centurion (pardon my ignorance) is that the frame-mounted safety version? That's indeed a cool version of the 92.
Basic Beretta 92/96 designations are as follow:
"F" is combo safety/decocker.
"G" is decocker only.
"D" is DAO with a slick slide.

The Centurion was the full-size frame but a shorter barrel, with the muzzle even with the end of the slide. [emoji6]

Then you have the compact models with a slightly shorter grip:
