US Vz-58 aka Vz-2000

I was thumbing through one of the gun rags yesterday and came across an article that said that Ohio Ordnance was making milled steel receivers and putting together complete Vz-58 semi-only guns. I was in a bit of a hurry, so I didn't get the full scoop, but I want to say they were to be priced around $500.

Has anyone had a chance to examine one in person, and if so, shoot it? An AK-ish carbing with a bolt hold open and some other unique stuff would be pretty cool...

The Vz58 was an AK-styled rifle that was an improvement in almost every way over the AK. If the US guns are anything like the originals, I WANT ONE!!!!! They did use AK mags.

They did not use AK mags. The Vz-58 used a mag that was longer, fore and aft, than an AK, with a tab to the rear to trip the bolt hold open device. The mag catch is offset to the left to accomodate the mag's tap track.

The bolt locking system was a falling block setup similar to a Beretta 92 or Walther P38.

It had a striker, but no conventional hammer.

It has a charger strip holder on the bolt face, like the SKS.

It was really a completely different design than the AK, but could be mistaken for one from a distance or quick glance.
