US Marshall Service handguns

If anyone is watching Justified on FX, you'll know what I'm talking about...

So far the main character seems to have at least three main guns - a Sig, a Glock, and a 1911 - at various times in the two episodes. He also had what appeared to be a mini Glock back up in last night's episode.

Anyone know what the Marshall Service actually carries? I THOUGHT they were armed with Sigs, and that Marshalls didn't have the option to carry anything other than the issue gun on duty.

Tommy Lee Jones carried a Glock,,,

Apparently he had issues with "Sissy Pistols"

But to be real I stumbled across this website the other day,,,

US Marshals Service
The issue sidearm is the 9×19mm Glock 19.

Hey,,,
I read it on the internet,,,
It just has to be true, doesn't it?

From what I've seen of the show, the main character seems like the type to ignore the issued weapon, and carry whatever he wanted to carry.

Doubt it would be that easy in real life, but I'm sure somebody has done it before.

Never seen the show but have seen a couple US-Ms while visiting a friend at the courthouse a few months ago. Looked like either a Glock 19 or 23.

main duty weapon is a glock 22 and can carry a glock 27 as backup. Also if they are special ops team they can carry a Smith and Wesson 1911. thats it. but with qualifications they can carry pretty much what ever. As long as the SDUSM oks it. But the above are ISSUED guns

I think they use Glock 23s. I had to do some work in one of the Federal Courthouse Buildings and that's what the guys that monitored the building were carrying. Security there was tight to say the least.

How about Southland?

One Uniformed Officer carries a Glock, his partner (the big blonde dude) carries a stainless single action, I think it is a Smith.

Aren't all Uniforms in the same Dept. issued the same sidearm?

Just wonderin'.

Looks like a pretty good show so far. Entertaining at least.

I doubt it will be all that accurate as far as the issued sidearms are. I've not seen Marshals drive around with a trunk full of sidearms in the rear of their vehicles yet in real life. Nor get in as many shoot outs. Some nice press checks in the premiere episode though.

I'll keep peeping it for awhile. If it's half as good as The Shield or Sons of Anarchy it'll be worth a watch.

Like a lot of places the noobs get issued the low bidder tupperware and a certain percentage of vets will strive to qualify with anything else "acceptable" just to get away from the plastic brick.

I avoided being issued Glocks twice while in law enforcement. Paid my own way to get the hell away from them too.

The USMS fugitive recovery teams used Melonited 4566's for awhile in the 90's.

Don't know if they still do. I found one of the overuns. Sweet pistol. Regards 18DAI.

rmocarsky, The Smith 4506 was a issue pistol for the LAPD in the 90's. I believe the older officers can still carry them. It was used in the TV show the Shield also.

i know my hometown sheriffs department is goin from the glock 22 to sig 226. how do i kno? they felt the urge to send notification why county taxes where goin up again!!!

Sailor, is Jax FL still the largest city area wise in the US? Is the SO going to maintain the .40 cal. in the 226, or, go .357 Sig or 9mm? Will you get a tax rebate if they sell off those old Glock 22s??? :D

Are they madated to carry what they're issued? If so, can they swap their backup gun that's probably issued to be their primary gun?

Enqiring minds want to know....well at least Mike and I...

The U.S. Marshals Service are issued Glock 22 .40S&W's for their primary weapon. They are also allowed to carry the Glock 23 as their primary, but you must purchase this handgun on their own and qualify with it before it can be carried.

The Glock 27 may be used as a backup gun, but again, they must purchase the gun on their own dime and qualify with it before being allowed to carry it.

They have different courses of fire for primary and secondary pistol qualifications. The only caliber they are allowed to carry is .40S&W with the exception of backup guns. They just have to be on the approved handgun list.

The only people allowed to carry outside this are the Special Operations Group. Members of the SOG may carry the M1911 .45.

Aren't all Uniforms in the same Dept. issued the same sidearm?

Depends on the department. Many have a specific issue weapon, but then also provide a list of approved weapons that individuals can purchase and carry at their own cost. The department I work with now issues the Glock 21SF but allows the H&K USP 45, Sig 220, or Glock 21 non-SF model. By contrast, the city department here only allows the Glock 22, 23, and 27. So it just depends on the department.
