Does anyone out there know anything about the LINE (Linear <something> Neural <something>, I think) system of hand-to-hand combat that the USMC began teaching recruits around 1989? I'm curious because I never got trained in it (I graduated from Parris Island in 1988) but some of the Marines I knew who did learn it thought that the LINE stuff was worthwhile. The concept was to teach recruits a few simple, non-acrobatic techniques that could be used on the battlefield (with poor footing, heavy gear being worn, et cetera).
The unarmed combat training that I received was very rudimentary, done more to make recruits feel like well-rounded warriors than anything else. To paraphrase the instructor, "The Marine Corps gives you a rifle and teaches you how to use it. If you're such a poor shot that you let the other guy get close enough for a fist fight, you deserve to get your ass kicked".
