Got this from Mr GunsnGear's channel. This is the first I've heard of it, is there anyone who's more savvy with lawyer and law lingo than I that can confirm this? Not to say I doubt what me Gear says, I'd just like someone who can read this with more educated eyes and hear what they have to say about all this.

Here's the link to the video along with all the pertinent links from Mr gears channel

As per the order, the following have been added to the Specially Designated Nationals List:

KALASHNIKOV CONCERN (a.k.a. CONCERN KALASHNIKOV;
a.k.a. IZHEVSKIY MASHINOSTROITEL'NYI ZAVOD OAO;
f.k.a. IZHMASH R&D CENTER;
f.k.a. JSC NPO IZHMASH; f.k.a. NPO IZHMASH OAO;
a.k.a. OJSC CONCERN KALASHNIKOV;
f.k.a. OJSC IZHMASH;
f.k.a. SCIENTIFIC PRODUCTION ASSOCIATION IZHMASH JOINT STOCK COMPANY), 3, Derjabin Pr., Izhevsk, Udmurt Republic 426006, Russia; Registration ID 1111832003018 [UKRAINE2].

For the most part, that applies to the Saiga line of products. Weapons from Romania, Bulgaria, Poland, and other countries can still be imported.

Thank you tom. Arsenal's AK's are from Bulgaria if I'm not mistaken, so I don't think they're affected by any of this, if anything, their value will go up. Good for Arsenal owners, bad for those that want to get into the AK world I suppose.

We'll see, Clinton (or was it Bush Sr.?)did something like this a while back if my knowledge of past gun laws is accurate (sporting clause or what have you through EO's). A real shame, and I don't think Russia is going to really give a darn. Sanctions or no sanctions.

Hopefully people don't go bat crap crazy and start panic buying, but...I wouldn't put it past many sadly.

While this doesn't effect the vast majority of the AKs brought into the US(based entirely on an unscientific poll i just conducted in my head), i have a feeling this will cause a mini AK panic. Prices will probably not fluctuate much, but i wouldn't be shocked if the neckbeards all start to buy up every WASR and VZ2008 they can find to try and flip it.

Which ticks me off because i am trying to save up for an entry level AK. :mad:

Why not? Most panic buyers are now broke and won't be able bid the prices up much. PA VZ61 weren't gonna stay at 400 bucks anyway. I'm a get me a Baikal O/U or double rifle :)

Seeing a trend and reacting before a crisis is not panic buying . I started storing ammo and other gear couple decades ago . I have .22 ammo I bought back then and I have Military surplus I bought before the price soared . Everybody should make thier own decisions . I know good shooters that sit and fuss because they can't evan load the mag of their favorite firearms when they could have "been prepared" . These sanctions could be good for Eastern European Countries that have AK factories and parts .

Not so much. Most of the AK-47 pattern rifles on retail shelves are from other countries. The main line of affected products is going to be Saiga, who haven't been all that present since 2013 in any case.

In addition to guns from Bulgaria, Romania, etc., I don't believe that the sanctions will affect Russian-built MOLOT VEPR rifles either, since AFAIK the company is independent from the Kalashnikov Concern, and it doesn't show up on the U.S. Treasury list as far as I can tell.

IOW this isn't even a ban on all Russian-made AK-pattern rifles; it only affects true Kalashnikov-branded products from Izhevsk.

What it sounds like is that they're taking advantage of the situation to scoot gun bans into law while under the guise of "hey, we're trying to pressure the Russians to stop their evil deeds! Were the good guys here see!" Via the "sanctions" against Russia.

Of course that's just speculation on my part.

I'm sure you're right. having said that, its legal and I can't get worked up about not being able to buy some plinker from Russia.

Perhaps not, but I betcha that the ban will last for a while, even if some of the other sanctions are lifted.

My hunch is that the next President will be reluctant to lift a ban on importing so-called AK-47's*, regardless of his/her political affiliation, at least during his/her 1st term.

*I know full well that "AK-47" isn't technically correct nomenclature for a Saiga, but we all know that's how it will be represented in the press. :rolleyes:

Actually, such a measure would make sense, even from a relatively gun-friendly President. It has an impact on an important sector of the Russian economy.

Even if the ban had a big impact on AK availability in the short run (which doesn't appear to be the case), the long term effect would likely be growth of AK manufacturing in this country. Granted, that would take awhile but look at all the non-U.S. companies making guns in this country.

We're already seeing Century rifles built in the U.S. They're made on milled receivers. They even have an American flag engraved on the side.

(An American flag on a Kalashnikov rifle. What next, dogs and cats living together?)

Can someone confirm that this does prevent Saiga-12s from being imported?

Looking at Gun Broker, they're getting close to the $1,000 mark.

I paid $350 for mine back in '07 and felt that was a pretty fair price for getting a project gun that took me a few hundred bucks and a $200 tax stamp to make it acceptable. I couldn't image paying more than $500 or so for a stock one. Even with all the modifications, you're still basically stuck with just a cool range toy.

I'm sure this reflects a deliberate conspiracy by Barack Obama to make it illegal for specific individuals on TFL to fulfill their sudden desire for a Saiga shotgun.

There's no chance it has anything whatsoever to do with the Russian invasion of Ukraine or its continued intransigence in the face of escalating economic sanctions.
