All,
We need to win this battle. President Bush should be allowed to appoint his own people in his administration. If Ashcroft is defeated by the left, that is a clear sign to the left that Bush's administration is a lame-duck.
Please sign the petition below and call, email and write your US Senators to vote for Ashcroft.
You probably know by now that the vote for John Ashcroft's confirmationas Attorney General in the Senate Judiciary Committee has been pushedback one week.
Senator Orrin Hatch said the opposition to the nomination is 'intenseand relentless.'
The Democrats have inundated Ashcroft with hundreds of questions forhim to answer in writing before next Wednesday.
The delayed vote gives the opposition groups - which are highly mobilized- even more time to promote their smear campaign.
People for the American Way, Americans United for the Separation of Churchand State, National Organization for Women, and others are mobilizingtheir activists - calling their senators asking them to reject Ashcroft.
Tragically, this opposition is having an effect.
But we cannot sit by and let this happen!
We, too, can make a difference - and I will need your help.
I'm asking you to do two things today:
1) CALL YOUR SENATOR through the Capitol Switchboard - 202.224.3121.
I encourage you to have a polite and courteous conversation with yoursenator stressing that:
a) Ashcroft is qualified to be Attorney General;
b) Ashcroft should be confirmed not only because of his record, but alsobecause of his commitment to equally enforce the laws of the land - includingupholding the Constitution and rule of law;
c) President Bush deserves the opportunity to appoint his own AttorneyGeneral.
2) SIGN THE PETITION today, if you haven't already done so, urging ourleaders to confirm Ashcroft as Attorney General.

We have more than 170,000 names of support on our petition so far. Butwe have another incredible opportunity to make our views heard duringthis one-week window before the vote!
Before the Ashcroft nomination goes to the Senate floor for a vote, Iwant to be able to deliver to each and every senator a petition thatincludes more than 200,000 names. We are working hard in Washington tokeep the senators aware of this growing effort of support.
Please sign the petition today - and email this critical message to yourfriends!
