I have an urgent question for any LEO of the Chicago-Heights PD, or anyone who might be able to confirm this.
Does the Chicago-Heights PD authorize it's officers to carry the Jennings 380 ACP?????

If so, are there any officers here that actually do, and how do you rate it compaired to the Glock???

Thanks

I don't know about if it's authorized, but I doubt highly if it is. I've never heard of a department that puts any limitations on guns authorize it. Single action guns are rarely authorized in general. Jennings are often considered the auto version of the "saturday night special" due to their poor quality. The Jennings is probably one of the lowest quality guns made, and the .380 is a rather weak round for a LEO duty gun. I actually had a case where one jammed, went off, and shot someone. The arresting officer even testified to the poor quality of the gun. You can usually pick up new ones for around a hundred bucks, and used ones for much less.

The Glock, on the other hand, is one of the best guns out there. Some like it better than others, but it is on par with the Sig, HK, Beretta, etc. Solid, well built, ergonomic, etc. One of, if not the, most common duty guns for LEOs. It shoots good rounds (they make a .380, but it's not available in the states. they come in 9, .40, .357sig, 10, and .45), and carries a bunch of them (except the new single stack and subcompacts, between 13 and 17 rounds plus one in the pipe) in LEO or pre-ban mags. They generally run between 400 and 550 new, 300-450 used.

I usually qualify my posts with stuff like "but see for yourself" and "test fire the guns before you decide", but here I won't. The Glock is a far superior gun to the Jennings. Night and day. Your life is worth the extra bucks. You will thank me later.

Denfoote -- That guy over on Glock Talk is scamming everyone with his Jennings story! He's making it up as he goes along!

Ledbetter -- The site is Glocktalk.com and the forum is "general glocking." The title is "My Jennings is Better" by benny beals.

Sorry, folks, too late to respond to the claim that the Jennings .380 makes a fine varminter. GlockTalk thread closed.

Jennings makes a fine paperweight - and thats it. I wouldnt THROW a jennings at a BG! However - save enough of them and you can sell them at a GUN BUY BACK and make a few bucks.

Glock and Jennings should never be spoken in the same sentance.

I hope this is a joke. I'd hate to think anybody would take the question seriously. BTW, GEORGE, Don't insult Amish Machinery. At least they get the job done. Maybe you should compare it to a Yugo? Don't get me wrong, now, I think that Jennings should be able to still produce guns. So long as bad guys are armed with them, I won't fear the night. Wait till they all carry Glocks... Scary.

Odd somebody should mention the Yugo, I saw one driving around the other day. I also saw a Vega station wagon being driven around. But to compare a crappy gun like the Jennings to an Amish carriage is clearly an insult to the Amish.
