Upswept hammer for Uberti?

{First, I'm a very-rare poster here (less than 20 posts in 8 years) so if I seem a noob, pardon my noobness. :o }

Are there any sources for a slightly-upswept hammer that will fit the Uberti SA's?

Looking for one that is upswept & munden-esque. Something along these lines:

although I could totally do without the flowerdy grips..

Am really NOT looking for one of these fanning-only paddle hammers:

After recently handling a Uberti El Patron, I'm planning to pick one up in the next few weeks and would like to make this one change, ideally as close to drop-in as possible.

Thanks in advance.

Someone may make those, but the ones I have seen have been altered to a customer's specifications by a gunsmith.

Yes, looks like a custom weld 'n' shape job.

Probably not a very good lead, but you might want to contact Doug Turnbull.

Careful fanning the El Patron if its not set up properly. I have an El Patron Comp that I carry. Nice gun, the first one I had ever seen with the lower, wider hammer spur. Plenty of cool factor so I brought it home "fixed it" . Now, it's an extremely reliable, fast handling sixgun. I also fitted a .45 acp cylinder to it . It's awesome!!!

Not really looking as a fanning thing, I just think I would prefer the taller-than normal profile of the top one. (I'm somewhat of a semi-freakish oaf with large hands.)

Oh mercy... I'm sorry but those hammers just look godawful.

Am I the only one who thinks that?
Second one, definitely agree. First one, I'd concede to "odd" or weird, but imo its function benefit (for me personally) would probably more than make up for it.

Part of the reason I'm looking for a replacement is that while I think it would work better for me, I'm not certain of it, never having used one like that; and would like the option of switching back to the original if I'm wrong.

I may actually be able to get the same or similar benefit from a short-throw conversion; just looking into ways to keep the hammer from being so far back toward the backstrap at full cock.

You can install an action stop which will stop any extra movement of the hammer past full cock. This may help with some of your wants. It will definitely save wear on the action parts!!

Model12Win . . nope . . you're not the only one . . I agree with you!

But . . everyone has their "likes" and "dislikes" so who am I to say? :)

If I had any hammers like that on my SAAs, I'd have to put them to use . . . maybe hang my kew ring on the spur or stick an apple on it to save for a snack later one . . . :D:eek:

Just joshing John in AR . . . if that's what you like, go with it! :)

Seeing those hammers reminds me of a story an elderly friend told me a number of times. Seems that many, many years ago . . . I wasn't even a twinkle myself . . there was a guy around town who had supposedly worked on a ranch out west and he fancied himself as a "cowboy". He carried a 45 SAA around to prove it. One day, he was going to give a fast draw and fanning demonstration for a few of the local kids. He drew, proceeded to "fan" and on the first swipe of the hammer, opened up the palm of his hand on the firing pin spur . . . thus need the demonstration! Evidently the kids liked it though as they all got a good laugh out of it.

I promise I've looked... what's an action stop? I've searched for SAA action stop, 1873 action stop, cowboy shooting action stop, and revolver action stop, with no luck.

It's a set screw in the trigger gaurd located right under the mainspring/hammer. As soon as the full cock notch is engaged , the hammer/mainspring travel is stopped by bottoming out on the set screw. When the hammer stops, so does the rest of the action. This protects the parts from being forced to do more than they need to. I was thinking that this may stop the over travel you are concerning with.
