UPS HANDGUN SHIPPING TIMELINE

Follow this if you will.
For all practical purposes I'm in Fort Worth,
Texas. I sold a handgun FFL to FFL to a gentleman in San Fransico,Ca.
I shipped said package via my FFl on April 10,2000. I watched the UPS driver take possession of the package and log it into his inventory. The gentleman who bought it said that his FFL did recieve the package, pleased with it, yada yada yada....on April 25, 2000.
For this service I had the honor of paying for overnight delivery.

You have to consider the time it took for them to:

1. Ship it to the BATF
2. Run a 'ballistic fingerprint' test so they can enter it in that database
3. Check those results and the serial number against NICS and all their other databases
4. Verify their findings with the FBI's labs
5. Track the prior owners (if there were any)
6. Run a background check on you, the receiver and anyone else this gun touched in transit
7. Inform local, state & federal LEA's in both your jurisdictions of the transaction

These things take time. Even for a new gun, it can't always be done overnight.

You seem to forget one thing guys. Kalifornia has a 15 day waithing period on ALL firearm sales. The gun probably was delivered to the FFL in SF as advertised.

Sorry to read that I'm not the only one who's had problems with the Feds or the package delivery people, recently.
Here's hoping that neither the buyer or seller will get 'flagged' in the future...

------------------
...defend the 2nd., it protects us all.
No fate but what we make...

PaulB, I know about the waiting period. The guy who bought it has to wait until 5-14-2000 to actually take possession. the gun took two weeks to get there UPS overnight.
Foxfire, might get flagged? Hell the BAT boys have already called twice to try to get me to sell out of state w/o using an FFL on each end. Once to a guy in Utah, and once to a guy in Washington acting as a strawman for a guy in Canada.
Please don't think you have any rights left......you don't. Confiscation is only one election away.

call UPS customer service and give them the date shipped and recieved also tracking # for overnight air. ask for refund of charges as they guaruntee on time delivery. takes about 10 days to get a check.

Better yet, forget UPS. Use FED-X or the US Mail if shipping from FFl holder to FFl holder. Both are far less expensive and you take $$$ out of UPS'S pockets. I now only use UPS if there is no other choice.

Good ideas, get a refund for breach of contract and on FFL - FFL shipments us USPS. I have a suggestion. The next time you get a call for a straw sale asked them to call back while you check on how to do it, then notify your local ATF office so it can be investigated. ATF may be chasing their own tail over it or you might get one of the bad guy gun trafficers out of circulation.

i dont really understand ups policy concerning next day air on handguns.it was said on the news that ups is the 3rd largest contributor to the bush campain.if so then why are thier politics so backwards?they say its because of interstate theft.if so they need to screen their employees more carefully and quit punishing everyone else for their own hosekeeping mistakes.

gunmart, the problem is that BATF is going after UPS the company for not taking proper care when handling guns. They had 1100 guns stolen out of a trailer in a Chicago yard and one of the employees sold 400 Rugers out of the back of his truck on the streets of NYC that he had picked up in Ct at Ruger to support his crack habit. BATF has started fining UPS for many of the missing guns. Unemployment is down and they are hiring warm bodies, many of which are criminals. I agree that UPS should be a bit more selective in their hiring process, but to keep the guns in the hands of 'higher quality' employees they decided to go overnight and let us pay for it rather than solving the problem at its source.

jeff ;;;please dont take this the wrong way .i am on your side but can you back that up with a credible report?if so please email me what you have.i would greatly appreciate it .i have found no one else that has herd this before.thanks gunmart@edge.net

Hope my Glock has not been similarly "hijacked." It seems to be taking a bit long for "Next Day Air" or whatever it is that UPS makes you pay for now. I hope BCA mailed the damn thing. I wouldn't mind waiting so much, just not at BATF's or UPS's whim.
