Upland birds

I've lived in SE Wyoming for about a year. I think WY is one of the few states that require that you're domiciled for a full year before you can buy a resident hunt/fish license. I was too late to pick up leftover antelope tags for the areas I wanted (became a resident on the 25th of Aug.) but I still bought an upland bird license. Anyone know of places where I can find either blue grouse in the mountains or sharptails on the plains within a couple hour drive of Laramie? I don't have a dog, but I'm pretty confident hunting anything from Great Lakes woodcock to SE Oregon chukars and some SD pheasants in between by myself. I don't mind walking.

I have no local knowledge, but hate to see your post go unanswered. In the past, I have found places to hunt by:

1. Asking co-workers (who will sometimes invite you along)
2. Asking at the gun shops. They want you to buy some more shells...
3. Asking Fish & Game officers. I have had some very good tips that way. They seem to know what's going on, and frankly, I believe they would rather be a useful resource to good hunters than to bust bad ones.
