Upgraded S&W Model 36 grips advice.

Hello,

I recently purchased a blued Model 36 w a round-butt.

I would like to get a bit more length on my trigger pull and I am looking for suggestions. Right now it is equipped with S&W smooth wooden grips. This will be carried in a pocket, so no large grips please.

Would a Tyler T grip accomplish my goal?

The T-Grip IMO gives you a bit more to hang on to.
Here is my 36-1 with the T-Grip.

I would think you need something covering the back strap to lengthen trigger pull. I put Pachmayr"gripper" grips on mine, but I don't pocket carry.

These add about a 1/4 inch to the back.

Uncle Mikes

As popular as the J-.38's are, I'm surprised you didn't get more bites.

I suggest you handle a set of Uncle Mikes rubber "boot grips". There are objections by some on a rubber concealment grip (drags on clothing and "prints" easily) and if such is your thought, a wooden version of the "boot grip" can be found I believe pretty sure.

Boot grips are not longer, but a huge improvement over the factory issue.
Changing the grips on a J-frame is a huge step forward for nearly everyone.

The grips shown were offered by S&W some years ago...they might still be available from S&W or one of the bigger grip makers. My glove size is L, when I buy work gloves, and this pair allows me to shoot a j-frame double action without the tip of my trigger finger hitting my thumb and ruining the shot. As near as I can tell, they add about 3/16" to the trigger face to back strap length. HTH's Rod

I just picked up a 36 round butt as well. Today I was given a beat up T grip from a local shop. The tabs needed to be soldered and the paint is rough. It's in the oven curing right now after being soldered and painted. It does feel MUCH better with the T grip. I waqs going to go for a Boot grip but think I'll stick with factory profile grips now. I just ordered a set of black mother of pearls. With the T grip I think it will be about perfect.

I'll +1 giving the Pachmayr Compacs (smallest Pachmayr grips) a try. They cover the backstrap and give the pinky something to hold on to. With them on, I can almost fit my 3" barreled S&W model 36 in my front pockets (except jeans), so unless you almost exclusively wear pants with small pockets, the you should be able to fit the snubby version 36 with the Pachmayrs. If that doesn't float your boat Then I'd so go with any boot-grip type that covers the backstrap, but the only ones I've seen off-hand that do are the Crimson Trace LG-405s. Covering the backstrap is definitely your best bet for increasing the trigger reach though.
