Updates on new Subcompacts (P99 and P2000)?

Hello, does any one by chance know when the new subcompact P99 and P2000 models will be available to civilians in the U.S.? I have done a bit of searching, but I have not seen any specific dates mentioned about either of the two products yet. I assume that means that both products are still months away, but I thought I would check and see if there have been any updates.

I am very close to purchasing a Glock 26, but I would like to compare any other options out there first. Alternatively, are there any other subcompacts in 9mm comparable to a Glock, Walther, or an HK that I should consider?

Thank you for your information and ideas,

Midian

P.S. Since this is my first post on this board I would like to say hello. :) TFL seems to be a great community and I look forward to participating in the future.

In case any one is curious, here are updates on my original questions about the new Walther and HK:

P2000 – I contacted several different HK dealers. None of them had any specific dates about the P2000 release yet. In fact, one dealer stated that he does not even have a part number or pricing information yet. In his opinion, he said not to expect it until the end of the year at the earliest.

New Walther Subcompact in 9mm and .40. – I called a few Walther dealers who did not know anything about this gun at all. Next, I sent an email to Walther USA directly. The Walther/S&W customer service representative responded fairly promptly, but had no knowledge of a new subcompact at all. I found this new gun discussed in multiple places on multiple sites (including TFL). Could this just be a rumor, or is this gun still a long way from distribution? I am not sure any longer.

Midian - That's disappointing about the Walther especially. The sub-compact Walther discussions sprang from reliable SHOT Show 2002 reports that Walther was claiming to have a prototype, but would only show it to the "Big Dogs" of the Gun-rag world... So it was at least more than just EMPTY rumor anyway.

Thanks for putting in all that effort!

If the gun rags are involved, then it's a rumour!!!

Buy the G26. You won't be sorry!!! :D

Does this mean that all new Walthers being produced are made by S&W?
On the contrary. I read that Wather is manufacturing all products in Germany from here on out, including the S&W 99. Apparently Wather had some quality control concerns about the S&W slides made in the U.S. (go figure). S&W is merely going to distribute the Walther joint venture products in the U.S.

I already own a G19 and am kind of hoping to get something a little different this time. That is why I really want to check out new options. The problem is that I can't find any other products I feel comfortable with. The Keltec P11 and Kahr options are nice guns, but I just don't think they are acceptable for my needs. I would love a Sig, H&K, or Walther subcompact if one existed. :(

Really now guys,

Is the P99 really that big. It is very easily concealed. Fully loaded it still "feels" lighter than a Kahr-40.

denfoote,

You still on the dark side?

This photo should address any questions about the enormous size difference between the P99 and the MK9. If you're looking for something with 9mm punch, in something about the size of a Tomcat, the MK9 is what you're after.

This is the SHOT Show report I did from Walther. Scroll down and read the Walther section.

Then read the first paragraph on the 'Secrets' page:

I just bought a Walther P99 last month. The reason I did was that I noticed that many of the new P99's are built on Walther frames, with the German proof mark, BUT the slide and barrel do NOT have the German proofs. That means that the frame is being imported from Germany and that S&W is putting a slide and barrel on, or assembling, the gun. It could very well be that the Walther hot shot I spoke to was not lying to me completely. That, in fact, S&W will have the compact gun, so it would be a compact SW99 and not a compact P99. As I stated in the report, S&W is suppose to have the SW45, not Walther, so it makes sense that S&W might be the ones to have the new guns. It would help to boost sales, which they desparately need.

This has been beaten to death rather sufficiently here before, but just so you and everyone else is clear:

There were approx 3000 .40S&W Military/Black Frame P99s that were assembled with genuine German Walther P99 frames and Maine made S&W .40S&W slides and barrels for a special run. These are the ONLY P99s that are not proof marked on the barrel and slide like the all German genuine P99s.

So to say that "many of the new P99s" is misleading and false. There are some out there, they are clearly identifiable, and there will be no more according to Walther Germany.

James
