Does anyone remember the news article about a NM park ranger shooting a man over a $14 camping fee? If so, and can add to the latest development, I would appreciate it.

TRUTH OR CONSEQUENCES, N.M. (AP) - A State Parks officer who fatally shot a man following a dispute over a camping fee at Elephant Butte State Park is facing a second-degree murder charge.

State police say Clyde Woods turned himself in Monday after an arrest warrant was issued. He’s being held at the Sierra County jail on a $100,000 bond.

Woods shot 58-year-old Bruce Teschner on August 23rd during a confrontation in which Teschner had refused to pay a $14-a-night camping fee and refused to leave the park.

State Parks director Dave Simon says criminal charges constitute an extremely serious situation and the division is following the matter closely.

Simon says Woods’ law enforcement powers have been suspended and he remains on paid leave until the division can review the findings of a state police investigation and conduct its own review.

Now, that is a load of crap. His Law Enforcement powers have been suspended, and he remains on paid leave? Anyone else would have been arrested, and now sitting in jail.

Load of Poo-Poo or not, It is very hard to make a just judgement by what the media wrote. We as gun owners are well aware of their distortions whether purposefully or not. I too am interested in what happened.

Not so fast.

He’s being held at the Sierra County jail on a $100,000 bond.

According to the article, he is in jail.

Great, so he's in jail but on paid leave? The citizens of New Mexico are contributing, at gunpoint, to his bail costs. Whether he makes bail before trial is irrelevant. The principle of the thing is sickening.

OK, so, he should be fired/suspended without pay for possibly doing his duty? Or has he been tried and convicted, and we just haven't heard about it?
Last time I looked, you were considered innocent until proven guilty.

Innocent until proven guilty. A seemingly innocent phrase often quoted in these types of discussons by those who seek self serving words.

Innocent until proven guilty doesn't apply in this case. Innocent until proven guilty only applies to ARRESTS & TRIALS.

It doesn't apply to paychecks and the ability to get them whilst one is NOT at work because one is in jail.

In no field of employment is someone allowed to draw their full paycheck while they await trial for abuse of their employment and duties. Except law enforcement (and political office - sometimes). Why should they get such a benefit?

I say hang 'em out to dry without pay. And if proven not guilty, THEN they get back pay. It'd make a much more fair and level playing field.
