Update on my relocation...

Hello friends, Many have read about and encouraged my desire to relocate to Western MD or WVA, thanks. I just returned home from a job finding mission to that area. In one day I found employment in Preston Co. WVA, the job is mine if I want it. The pay is not what I'm used too, but real good for the area. Still looking for a house, still got some time. What a beautiful area of the country. But there's a new twist...my brother, a Houston Police Officer and his wife, want us to move to that area. He says that he can get me a job, either on his Dept. or with the Sheriff's Dept. or with one of the town constabularies. What to do? I don't know if I'll be escaping what I'm trying to escape, if I relocate my family to Texas (crime, bad schools, urban blight and sprawl, etc...). I may take a trip down there just to see, however. I know some of my fellow members are from Texas, any insight would be helpful. My wife is from Corpus Christi, and I have a brother in El Paso.

I'm from Texas and love it. BUT, Houston is one place I will never live because of the reasons you stated earlier. But I like small towns like the one I grew up in, not much money there though.

Have you considered visiting your brother in El Paso and also looking at southern NM? Job might be a problem here, however. Jerry

I used to live in Angleton, Texas (Brazoria County) about 40 miles south of Houston. Angleton was/is a great place to live and raise kids but Houston is the pitts.
There are a lot of great places to live in Texas BUT Houston is not one of them.

Dor my friend, no offense taken at all. To each his own opinion.

As I stated, there are positive and negative points about any location. We each have to weigh them for ourselves before making any decisions, right?

To do otherwise would be to become one of the "sheeple" - those who follow the whims of others without any personal thought. :)
