Allrighty then - I talked to the gunsmith today, he still couldn't check out the barrel, throat, etc with a bore scope (his buddy hadn't returned with scope yet). He said that he and another guy checked it out really well with his bore light, etc, and they couldn't find any damage. I guess if there was any significant damage it would have showed up with the bore light? He checked the head space and it was good to go. I'm going to pick up the rifle tomorrow and take a box of (".270" ONLY) and see if there is still an accuracy issue. He told me it would be safe to shoot. I'll see tomorrow if it is accurate after bore sighting. If it shoots the way it should - I'll be tickled pink. If it still won't hit the side of a barn - It's off to another gunsmith (one with a bore scope). I'll post the range results tomorrow. By the way, he didn't charge me to check the head space etc:) Another plus - the range is at the same location as his shop - He owns both. I'll be amazed if no issues...

The rifles I have heard about suffering a similar problem sustained damage at the muzzle end and needed a couple of inches trimmed off to get them shooting again. One chap said that it sent the front sight into near earth orbit and apparently had a visibly belled muzzle. A circumcision apparently did the trick

How about just running a swag lead bullet down the bore. You'll feel any imperfection right away. Afterwards you can always measure if you still desire.

Good to hear that your barrel is okay and look for forward to your range report.

Hope everything goes well as far as accuracy is concerned.

Went to the range the other day and got the rifle sighted in. I shot close to 2 boxes of Hornady Superformance 130gr sst. Accuracy was good (didn't get any pics), will bring camera next trip to the range - hopefully within the next week. The rifle seems to have a little trouble cycling the rounds into chamber. What I mean is, I have to push the bolt forward fairly hard to chamber the round. I don't recall having to do this with any other bolt rifle I have owned. Also, after 6 or more rounds shot, there seems to by way too much crud in the receiver end of the barrel (sort of like carbon shavings? strange). But the rifle is shooting accurately with a cool barrel. I can't believe NO damage to the barrel - relief... Says something for the quality of the barrels on the TC Venture. Will give myself plenty of time to shoot next range session, and I believe my Venture will be a sub moa rifle - if I do my part.:) Pics of rifle and targets within the next 2 weeks.
