up/down carry comfortablility question

Hey guys, new here. I've been browsing and had a question that I'd like to bring to your attention. I carry IWB and when im standing/walking, i'm as comfortable as can be, but when I do things such as get in and out of my car, my gun likes to dig into my side pretty good which makes for uncomfortable car rides. Lately I've just been unholstering when I get in so I dont have to deal with it. Do any of you guys have this problem? If so, do you just unholster for the ride, or is there a trick? Thanks in advance

If you unholster and get into even a small accident, where do you think your gun will be found?? Don't know, me either.. Only unholster if you have a holster securely set up in your auto. Years ago an FBI agent was killed because he lost his piece during a minor accident while dealing with some bad guys.. In his case he took it out to be ready when he stopped.

+1. If you have to spend a lot of time getting in and out of and driving a vehicle think about cross draw rigs or shoulder rigs (if you can hide one). I used to spend entire days driving company vehicles and the cross draw solved all of my comfort problems while still being able to get the gun on target rapidly without fighting seats and belts and consoles. Taking it out of the holster and stashing it "somewhere" means when you need it quickly - it won't be there. Plus in a serious collision an unsecured gun can turn into a high speed projectile and kill you or someone else in the vehicle. Keep it strapped to your self.

where are you carrying, in the front or on the side? Have you thought about moving your holster around to the back, most comfortable to me is carrying somewhere between 4 and 6oclock with a forward cant

A new gun or a new holster is my suggestion. If you are holstering and unholstering all day you set yourself up for an accident. Put it in your holster and leave it there.

A cross draw rig or and OWB holster would be good places to start.

I carry between 3 and 4 o'clock and don't have the discomfort when driving that you describe. Size of the gun may be the issue, or type of holster, or where you are carrying. I have carried guns as large as a Sig P239 with no issue. Try different positions for carry or different holsters. N8 2 tactical, crossbreed, galco king tuk are all well reviewed and comfortable holsters that should work for you. Good luck.

What gun are you talking about here? The solutions will kind of depend on the gun. I'm thinking this may be something like carry in a shoulder rig if you will be in the car much or change the position on the hip, etc.

all valid points. I get what you guys are saying about why I shouldn't leave it unholstered, but at the same time, I take it out of my IWB and put it in another holster and keep it in my center counsel, so its not free to move around or anything like that. Do you guys still think that thats a bad idea? I appreciate the input, and i'll try carrying it in a different position like you guys have stated. By the way, I have a few guns I carry, but mainly my xd9sc, my kahr cw9, and when im just in jeans i have an LCP in a pocket holster that I'll throw in my back pocket and go.

I carry a Kel Tec PF-9, in a Belly Band, with the gun riding at the same height that it would if it were in an IWB holster, at 4 o'clock.

This set up is incredibly comfortable for me. There are a good few other subcompact slims that should be just as comfortable in the BB. M&P Shield, Walther PPS, Kahr CW9/CM9/PM9, Ruger LC9, Beretta Nano, Diamondback DB9, etc are all comparably sized.

By sticking the gun in the 'revolver' slot on the band, the trigger guard is completely covered, but the grip is fully accessible. I also have slots for spare mags (I carry 1 spare).

i carry my kahr cm9 in a crossbreed minituck and i forget its even there whether im in the car or anywhere else. my buddy carries a 1911 in a white hat holster (similar as crossbreed) and he forgets about it being there too. so maybe try one of those holsters to see if that helps.

also 5.11 tactical has holster shirts that work really well too!
