Unusual weapons

From time to time I see unusual stuff for sale, so I thought I’d start a thread about it.

A Swiss army flamethrower, last inspected in 1994

Does it get more fiery than that ?

Oh well, understood

Three years ago I saw an ad for a weird home made pistol. It seems a gentleman named Philip Sola in Zurich, Switzerland, decided in 1970 to build his own semi automatic handgun chambered in .357 Magnum with a lateral toggle slide. Price was abt $ 3200

The seller recommended against firing this prototype

I guess the side-toggle lets you mount an optic.

Did the magazine actually hold a .357 round? Hard to tell from a picture without any scale marking but the proportions look a bit off, at least to my aging eyes, to do so.

Classic12, eye protection is definitely required with that hinge thing that looks like it pops back when cycling.

That being said, I can’t stop looking at it

I think it does

As usual, very nice photography illustrating what you mean.

Oh it’s not my photography this time, just copied for the sales ad

For clarity, it’s not mine. In fact the stuff I’ll post here will likely be guns I didn’t buy, otherwise I’d make a dedicated post for it

I don't think much will top the Philipp Sola pistol. I've seen that before and used that picture on another forum to see if anyone could "guess this gun". Totally unfair, I know, but it was fun.

Some of my more "usual" unusual guns in my collection include:
- HAC-7 made by Holloway Arms in the '80's
- COP 357 - now, there's a chunk of Stainless Steel.
- Detonics Pocket 9
- Boberg XR9s - getting harder to find these
- K&M 308 Bullpup
- Megastar 45
- Steyr GB
- Braverman pen gun
- Encom MP45
- Gwinn/Bushmaster armpistol
- Sites Spectre 9mm
- Demro Tac 9mm carbine

I had a Johnson M1941 in the shop, and everyone who saw it laughed and thought it was a joke. How about an HK VP70? A Vega? A Webley & Scott? A Bushmaster M17? Calico? Linda? There are lots of guns out there people don't know about. You don't even have to get all that exotic before you start stumping the majority of gun enthusiasts.

I always thought the LeMatte revolver was a cool idea. A 9 shot revolver with a 20ga barrel under the rifled barrel.

I agree plus it makes the Taurus Judge/S&W Governor seem reasonable.

Those guns, and others were called horse pistols for a reason. The Lematte was meant to be carried by a horse, not on a person. Cavalry back in Civil War days carried multiple revolvers strapped on the saddle as well as on the individual person. There are accounts of soldiers carrying as many as 10 into combat. That was the only way for a quick reload with those.

I don't have a use for the Judge style guns, but I suppose if kept in a drawer for HD you could do worse. I wouldn't want to carry one, or any of the old horse pistols.

Actually, you really can't do much worse than one of those "is it fish or is it fowl" revolvers.

I have a VP70 I bought many years ago w 4 mags. Ancestor to both the Glock and the Hi Point, w a polymer frame and straight blowback (albeit with a fluted chamber) and a trigger like a staple gun. That doesn't even get into the odd mirrored front sight, where you hold on the shadow between the mirrored surfaces.

I admit, I bought it to complete my Aliens collection, partially. Now I have a short Ithaca 12 ga, the VP and a Smith auto. The 18 round mags are nice, too.

I have seen the 3 round burst version w the stock, and really have no urge to get or shoot one. Many better full auto fish in the sea. Fun to get out once in a while, though.

A shooting buddy bought this Pardini GT9 S 9 mm Parabellum for a small fortune (over 3 grand). He did not like it, the grip was too wide for his small hands, so he sold it at a loss to another shooting buddy.

The barrel is very thick

50 m target, it shot a bit low and left for me so I had to adjust my aim. Very good trigger and soft recoiling pistol due to its all steel mass
