Unusual little 22.....

I picked this lil 22 up about 10 years ago....With all the 22's that Mossberg made..this is the only one I've ever owned....It was cheap and a little unusual..so I said I can always use a bolt action 22....It sat in my safe for years..never shot it....I started trying to get some info on it....It seems it was made in 49'....It also had a strange shaped bolt with a case hardended finish....The fore stock folds down and has the original sling and a peep sight....Anyway..thought I'd share....

Nice-looking piece. I'd shoot it and enjoy it. There's one not nearly as nice on Gunbroker being offered for $300 now. I'm guessing the forearm is intended to function as a monopod. Of course, no self-respecting shooter would abuse their firearm's finish that way. Interesting feature, though.

Nice one! And a early 142-A, the later ones had a
round bolt knob and a black plastic fold down fore-end.

Mossberg made a bunch of neat 22's. Friend of mine collected
them for a while. He had 3 racks full of the darned things,
and no 2 alike. Great little guns, still affordable.

As a kid our neighbors son had one. His Mossberg shot better than anything we had. But his rifle was one that had a balck plastic forearm I believe it was. Only problem he encountered with his Mossberg was a couple lost clips back in the woods. I at that time had a Rem mod. 513. Cheap 22 but it never jammed as it was tube fed. A 50 rd box of Federal H.P. 22s was .53 cents including tax. Buy two boxes> One dollar even.

Oh my sir....I'm in need of a drool bucket...quick! I myself have gotten quite the taste in my mouth for the old mossy .22s

Very nice piece !!!

Very nice and these older ones were very popular and now, collectable. Might want to go over to the Mossberg forum and share it with then, as well. .... :)

Be Safe !!!

A late friend used to have the later, plastic fold-down FE tip, version.

It shot very well, IIRC - he gifted it to his nephew, several years before he passed.

AFAIK, the happy camper nephew still uses it regularly.
