Unsure times ahead for firearms??

Two disturbing things I've noticed among many others. First, the psycho in NY who set up the firefighters was a convicted felon and yet had three firearms and a menacing plan to hurt people. Ban firearms from the innoncent people, the nut jobs still will get theirs anyhow, and watch what happens!!? Disturbing and really no way to prevent.

Two, noticed in LA I believe it was people being encouraged to turn in their guns for $100, $200 if it was an assault rifle, and lines and lines of people are obliging!! What the hell are they thinking? First, it's a REALLY bad investment as I am quite sure they paid more than quadruple what they are receiving for them. Second, as referenced to my earlier point, the bad guys will still have their guns, period, end of story.

What in the hell is going on here?

Gun buybacks are usually "no questions asked" so if someone had a gun that was stolen, illegally modified, or used in some other sort of crime that they wanted to get rid of without exposing their legal activities, this would be a convenient way for them to do it. Also, a large number of the guns turned in to gun buybacks are either worthless junk that likely worth less than what's being paid for it, or guns that were inherited that the owner doesn't really know anything about. We've all heard the stories about widows turning in or selling their late husbands' valuable firearms for pennies on the dollar because they're "afraid to have it in the house." Not exactly the people you have to worry about committing violent crimes are they?

three things spring to mind

From Forrest Gump ' stupid is as stupid does'

'Your tax dollars at work'

South Africa had assualt weapon buy back at about $150 cash at any police station. Problem was in Angola, Mozambiqueand Namibia you could get rusty AK for $50. Guys were driving pickup trucks full of old aks for buy back. Police soon ran out of cash and the last loads were all offloaded into townships for the gunrunners to get out flat on their investment.

The pictures from LA show a lot of crappy long arms. I'd bet there are households where they have a hot AR or a leftover assault type from a relative that they just want to get rid off.

Saw picture of an SKS with an added high cap fixed mag.

You would have to see an inventory to see what was taken in. Past by backs have accomplished no noticeable change in crime.

I really have mixed feelings. It seems like there's a lot of groupthink going on right now, but I have actually been surprised by a lot of my (anti-gun) friends that are willing to listen to reason in regards to the bans. It seems a lot of people are "pro-ban" right now to A) stay under the radar and B) they're not educated enough on the subject in case their comments draw flak from other people.

Let's just keep on doin' what we're doin' and hope for the best, everyone...
