Unreported ballots in California

I just heard on the radio that there is a monsterous amount of absentee ballots still out in California that have not bee counted. Suggestions have been made that as many as 1 million absentee ballots have been overlooked by the media in that state.

Can anyone confirm or deny this?

Yup..
We had over 3.7 million absentee ballots cast and they've still got around a million to still count.

Statistically, they likely won't give Bush the Cali Electoral...but they sure will take the wind out of Al's popular vote contention

Most states don't bother to count absentee ballots unless there are enough to change the outcome. It saves them money.

Excellent news. I know it's nearly impossible, but that'd be hillarious if they swung California to Bush...

I think this goes to show that if you vote absentee, don't mail the ballot in. Instead hand carry it to the voting station. you don't have to wait in line, just drop the envelop off.

I believe www.cnn.com is showing about a 1.2mm spread for Gore at this point. So, assuming these numbers are correct, there would appear to be no way Bush could take CA ... however, counting those ballots could conceivably reduce the spread in the popular vote.

However, hour by hour, I feel more like I'm living in Yugoslavia than America. I'm not sure whether to keep hoping for an honest end to this mess, or to simply buy more ammunition. ;)

But the total popular vote count only gives Gore an edge by 120,000 votes or so. I believe that absentee ballots run in favor of Republicans. If that is the case, Gore's poular vote victory may not hold up nationally. There is no chance to win Kalifornia, but at least it is nice to know that my absentee vote is taking a vote off of the spread and may help with the ultimate goal:

Electoral vote win and popular vote win.

MG44...

Yup, you got it :) Its estimated %60-71 for Bush...

Hey, Al....popular vote? Bite me, simp-boy.

(My Cali county kicked his ass)

Does KA have a law stated that if the vote is withing such a percentage that a recount must take place? If so the absente ballets could could put it into this range and force a recount.Who knows how many illegal aliens voted and if proven could make a very big stink.

Jeff, CNN does not have accurate numbers. All other media I have investigated are saying the latest tally is about 300,000 difference...

Doesn't that defeat the purpose of using an absentee ballot? :)
