United Nations

I'm just curious about something. How many people here actually think the United Nations is poised to invade the US? Perhaps they'll be arriving with the Russian Navy and the Belgian Air Force? I dearly love guns, and when I say "cold, dead fingers" I mean it. But I do get this sinking feeling there are a few people out there living on a very, very different planet.

While you worry about an invasion by "blue helmets" (who are dying so you don't have to, BTW) those fine police officers in NYC and other major cities are, in fact, taking away everyone's guns. You want to get paranoid? Maybe you should start considering the possibility that the anti-gun forces LOVE IT when the pro-gun forces are waiting for an invasion that will never come. All the while the elimination of the RTKBA becomes a fait accompli in the cities, the courtrooms and Congress. There are plenty of places in THIS COUNTRY where you NO LONGER HAVE a right to keep and bear arms, my friends--and it's got NOTHING WHATEVER TO DO WITH THE UNITED NATIONS, GLOBALISM, NAFTA, THE WTO, ALIEN INVASIONS, THE CIA, ETC. ETC. It's the doing of the usual gang of liberals, plaintiffs attorneys, and politicians trying to score quick points. Stay focused on what's happening here on planet Earth, or you risk loosing everything.

GRH,

Welcome to TFL. This subject has been discussed before here. Search link is at the top of page. Most of what I would call "reasonable" citizens concerned about RKBA probably agree. Domestic encroachment is most definitely THE short term threat.

Could you elaborate on the reference to the "blue helmets ... dying so you don't have to, BTW"?

GRH,

A "full scale" action is not what people are concerned about. The United Nations is involved in many, many large organizations, from the YMCA to almost any environmental group you can name.

The point is, the UN summit is making strides towards allowing a UN army to have enforcement capabilities. This force would not respect sovereignty of any nation. If our government backed it, they could conceivably come here to enforce, say, a ban on "assault weapons" if the majority of UN member nations supported such a thing. Maybe it doesn't sound like something that could occur next week, but a decade from now I am sure it could.

Even more to the point, the UN does not need to actually invade anything. They can just mandate their policies with the blessing of an executive order. It's already happening - "national monument" land grabs are a result of UN influence. Our sovereignty, and everything we have sacrificed in the name of our Constitution is at risk.

GRH: Do you know what the New World Order is?

The UN wants to control the whole world, we will no longer be a Republic, they will be controling YOUR life, MY life, Everyones life, they will tell you how high, how far and when to jump, and you will.

AS far as invading, yep they are already here.

They won't invade: they'll introduce their influence over us gradually. First, they'll provide security over the 2002 Olympic games (because SOMETHING will happen in Sydney this year). Then they'll be present at the U.N. headquarters. Then they'll be around for other international events. Finally, they'll redefine "international events," and they'll be everywhere: watching the border, defending civil liberties, etc.

There are two types of men: those with guns, and those at their mercy.

I agree for the most part. Blue helmets on the streets of the U.S. of A will never happen. They don't have to go that far and they know it.

FWIW, the U.N. was behind the latest move to limit the trafficking of small arms that led to a Clintoon exec order that nixed the import of Imbel receivers from Brazil. So they aren't exactly innocuous either.

Sorry you asked, GRH?

Some folks need an enemy. When you talk the RKBA just smile and dissociated yourself from the UN phobics.

It's like talking to some African-American, most are quite reasonable and make legitimate points about civil rights. Then there are a few who think the CIA invented AIDS to kill off blacks in the world.

The UN is a similar trigger point here.
Don't waste your time asking about it.

And, some people think everyone else is paranoid ...

I find the UN more interesting these days because of their incremental accumulation of power, and the NGO's that work with them to the detriment of fundamental American freedoms.

Since our country has historically recognized (in a unique fashion, quite often) important, fundamental liberties, any loss of sovereignity will be of concern.

You can readily see why some are concerned by taking a look at www.iansa.org - an NGO that is advancing the anti-self defense movement in the international 'community'. You don't have to believe in black helicopters and an invasion of the Rwandan air force ... but, you may still have concerns about the international face of the anti-self defense movement. It is most certainly real.

GRH,

Very well put.

I think I speak for the majority of "run-of-the-mill" pro-2nd folks when I say this:

skepticism towards the UN is not really borne out of fear of a blue-helmet invasion.

Rather, we are concerned about the fact that yet more of our singularly American freedoms are being diluted as we cede yet another piece of national sovereignty to a global entity of unelected bureaucrats. (RATS?) ;)

These freedoms include RKBA, freedom of speech, right to privacy, and all the other niceties that we Americans take for granted.

And my friends above are right, in this sense the "blue helmets" have already swarmed our shores long ago......
