Local shop has one of these in the box with "Certificate of Authenticity", with bayonet, sling and several items. Price is $300 - too much to pay for this? I called Inter-ordinance who does not have any of these right now. Should I pass on this or take it? Thanks, Nelson

TOO MUCH! I don't know how much that certificate of authenticity is worth, but you can get the Mausers in unissued-excellant condition for between $100-$170.

Certificate of authenticity of what? That a bunch of rifles sat around in a warehouse until an American importer bought them up? Those rifles are M48A's, not K.98k's. They were made in Yugoslavia and use a short action, not the standard Model 98 action. They have no actual wartime use or history.

Many of the guns sold as "M48's" actually were K.98k's with the eagle markings obliterated, or Czech VZ-24's with the receiver crest ground off. Either would have been more historical than the M48A.

I bought a Yugo M48A from Coles distributing with my C&R license for $107.00 delivered. My rifle was in like new condition, but Coles said it would only be excellent. Shop around, $200.00 isn't worth it for a piece of paper they probably made on their computer.

They seem to have a thing about milking folks. Now you can get a 600 buck P-38 from them in a fancy wood case for 2k. talk about a pack of gougers.

That is too much to pay, but I wouldn't be surprised if that's what they go for all over in a few years. I got mine for $199 with the same package. It's an excellent rifle, probably *worth* about $1,500 if it were re-built today. I'm not sure why they're trying to sell this as a historical rifle, unless it's one used by the Bosnians with the Bosnian fleur on it.

If you want a historical rifle to hang on the wall or march around in an SS costume with, do not get this rifle. If you want to actually go out and use an unissued Mauser, this is the rifle for you. I've taken mine through some rough country, and it's held up very well.

In other words, this is not the sort of rifle for a "rifle NAZI" ;-) It's a rifle for people who buy rifles to use them, not to look at them or admire their racial purity.
