unignited Powder?

Today, I took apart my Remington 597 .22 rifle to clean after a couple of trips to the range. Everything else went well, but the trigger assembly, which is all one polymer piece including the mag well and hammer, was VERY dirty. The trigger pull and the mag release button were very grainy. After cleaning on it for about an hour, things seemed little better. Some of the gunk that had built up in the assembly had fallen out onto my work surface. It suspiciously resembled ball type powder. Now, my main ammo in my rifle is Remington .22 Thunderbolt, and two range trip ago I put some CCI Blazer ammo through it, I hated it. But could the case be that part of the powder in my ammo isn't burning? Has anyone else come across this? If so, can anyone recommend a good .22 ammo that doesn't have this problem?
Thanks
Jerry

Common enough....

all rounds leave some unburned powder. It's been researched and verified enough. The worst offenders are slow powders with little "restriction", the combination of bullet weight, crimp and relative bore diameter.

For my money, the best reason to clean guns is to get the gunk out of them so they are reliable.

You might, in your 22, try several different brands and types of rounds. You'll find that one loading is most accurate. One type will be cleanest. I've never had the two coincide, but no one ever called me lucky.

That is basically the reason I've stuck with the Thunderbolts, they seem to be the most accurate. As for clean, well.........
I have thought of send the trigger mech to a smith to dissassemble and clean once in awhile. Don't know if it is worth it though?
