Unertl scope...

Thinking about outfitting a (future purchase) 700 VS in .308, and I'm looking at scopes. Of course I looked into Leupolds, Tascos, B&L's, yadda, yadda.

I've got a couple of leads on some Unertl scopes, one 15X and a 16X.

I've never heared anything bad about them, (or anything at all, for that matter), so the question is why SHOULDN'T I consider the Unertl series? Aside from an odd loking contraption, (or cool, depending), and maybe needing a Ph.D. in Mech. Eng. to operate, of course. The price is comporable to the Leupolds and higher end Tascos and B&Ls.

Anyone know these??

E3M, last I heard, John Unertl & Co. was closing its doors. Unertl target scopes have external adjustments and a recoil spring on the scope tube. Optics are not particularly bright nor are the scopes waterproof. I am referring to the target models, not the 10X USMC Sniper, which is a different animal. IMHO a Leupold would be your best choice. J Unertl is very much in business. I'm sending them a scope to be refurbished. The Unertl target scopes are designed for highpower rifle competition. The adjustments are repeatable and consistant. For almost everybody a good internally adjustable scope is the way to go. Buy a Leupold, and you will be happy. They are easier to mount and will work just as well or better. Semper Fidelis...Ken M
