Lookout we have a dangerious bill moving in Congress to allow police to search your home (for illegal guns for example) and not tell you about it. News at the "information sign" icon at:

I called Texas Senator Phil Gramm's Washington office to complain about this. An aide called me back two days later and gave me the following information:

1) The bill simply legalizes what the police are ALREADY DOING!

2) A court on the west coast allows the police 30 days to notify property owners of the search and seizure, while a court on the east coast allows 90 days.

3) The bill is intended to reconcile these differences.

I asked the aide to please understand that I didn't think the police should be allowed to perform these sneaky raids EVER. He said he would pass the message along to Senator Gramm.

I sent three articles by fax to my congressman's office. Got an E-mail reply that the offending language will be stricken from both bills, by an amendment from Bob Barr which will likely pass with no opposition.

I hope my source (Rep. Sue Myrick) is right and you are wrong! I went off the deep end on this one, someone else had posted it. Sent a copy of the article to her office and asked them to check. To make a long story short they assured me that Rep. Barr had stripped the search issue from the bill. If I'm wrong, someone e-mail me and I will re-contact them.

I read downloaded this bill from the Thomas Legislative Information Website last night and read it this morning. I found no referrence to any search and seizure.

If we don't need the second amendment why are they trying to take it away?

Brent, you've gotta love it ... 'The bill simply legalizes what the police are ALREADY DOING!'.

Well, I certainly feel much better now. ;)

Sometimes I feel like Rip van Winkle, and wonder if I've overslept, and awakened in the wrong country / wrong time ... ;)

Not really funny, I know.
